I dunno, LUCKY keeps emailing me their latest fliers; seems they only want to stock the very latest kits, but when I go to their site, SURE ENOUGH!!! ON BACK-ORDER, with limited numbers of the stuff that I'm not interested in, in their actual stock... ???

Arrived today, exactly when the shipping notice said it would arrive.
After working with AFV Club M54, Hobby Boss M1070, Dragon Pz III, the parts count is soooo manageable on the Sheridan. Not a fan of the vinyl mesh, but this will be a quick build for an OOB show.
Now, looking forward to the Rye Field Sheridan......

Arrived yesterday, only a day later than promised. Now, waiting for Tamiya to release the PE set. Don't really need the metal barrel I think. But I don't relish trying to cut those screens for the engine vents out of the nylon mesh provided in the kit.

So I learned my lesson of ordering things only indicated as "in-stock" from Lucky model.com. That has given me no problems at all. My Sheridan is on its way, too. Exciting times.

I, for one, will wait a few months before I buy this new TAMIYA M551 (Vietnam) kit and a couple of the later-type RYE FIELD Sheridans. Prices will come down eventually, and I'll probably pick all of 'em up on Ebay for that very reason...
I don't sweat the Main Gun Tubes, .50s, nylon mesh Screening or any of the other little bits and pieces that wind up being produced by the after-market people for any kits that I choose to buy 'n' build. I just wait, read the reviews on all of the available A/M stuff, and then I buy what I think that I'll need. I don't start any kit until I have all of my A/M stuff for that particular kit. No doubt, some enterprising A/M companies will be carrying "corrections", up-dates and super-detailing sets, (with brass screening), before I buy any of the new M551s.
Listen, I haven't even gotten the latest TAMIYA M3 Stuart or M3A1 Scout Car kits yet. I bide my time when I buy 'n' build. I've DELIBERATELY held off buying the TAKOM M3 Lee/Grant kits, just because MINIART hasn't released their U.S versions of the same tank, yet. I will read the reviews and compare the lows and highs of the kits before I jump to buy ANY model kit. Prevents headaches later on...

And hope that they don't miss an entire sprue section that is only shown on the manual like their Abrams kit. Haha

If you mean their M1A1/A2 with interior, the good news is they've included the missing sprue in the more recent boxings.

I ordered the Tamiya Barrel & PE set for the Sheridan from PlazaJapan on the 26th. They shipped it on the 28th, and it arrived today. Excellent service on the part of PlazaJapan. It was about $21.00, including the shipping. After looking it over, I think it was worth the price, and a definite 'must have'. While I could've lived without the aluminum barrel, the PE screens and 'chicken wire' RPG screen are a vast improvement over the kit provided nylon mesh. There will probably be other more extensive (and expensive) PE sets available eventually. But if you want a simple improvement for your Sheridan, Tamiya's set will fill the bill quite nicely.

Then my order from the same vendor should arrive today!
Paint is on my kit, just waiting to add the barrel and screens for the vents.
I also have a built/retired Academy M551 with Fruil tracks, which a cat had damaged previously. I moved the Academy drive sprockets and tracks to the Tamiva kit, and looks good. The sprockets are just a tad smaller than Tamiyas, and I had to slightly reduce the width of the final drive support to bring the sprockets into line with the road wheels.Used brass tubing to mount the Academy sprockets.

Jim,
Why did you use the Academy sprockets? Is there some issue with the Tamiya kit sprockets and track?

Tamiyas are fine. Just wanted to resurrect the metal Fruils from an otherwise wrecked Academy kit (thanks, cats.....) and the Tamiya sprockets were of a different width, requiring either modification of the Tamiya part, or replacement with the Academy ones which fit the Fruil tracks.
The Fruils had been expensive, and I wanted to get a little more mileage out of them, rather than anchor a broken kit on the shelf.

Mine arrived in the mail yesterday. It looks awesome. Granted 45+ years in the making/waiting. I especially like the link/connect tracks.

It's funny, in a full build of the pre-production Tamiya kit in February's Military Modelcraft International the editor states that the Academy sprocket required a white meal replacement while the Fruils fit perfectly on the new Tamiya sprocket.

Seems we got them a bit earlier over here in Europe. Bought mine two weeks ago locally and they got them in store as soon as early January. Was 46 Euro if I recall correctly. Bethween Dragons M48 and AFV Club M113 we seems to be living in a golden Era for VN kits, oh forgott to mention the nice Duster from AFV.
