I was a safety officer on the first two runs at BATUS. All vehicles, softskin and armoured, then were British with the exception of medium trucks which were M135CDN deuce and a halfs with (painted) british military registrations. At that time, all vehicles were green or green/black (I am sure that the M135s were not repainted from whatever their original Canadian colour was). Later variations were green/sand for most vehicles, red for safety vehicles and one large red recovery vehicle by Western Star. Incidentally, not all vehicles were initially left hand drive; we all received an angry note from the management that right hand drive vehicles were not supposed to be driven on the public Canadian roads.

Does anybody make a decal set with British Forces Arabian Peninsula flash? I checked the usual suspects ,no joy. Also, what in the bridge classification for the Land rover? Photos I've seen (mostly restored) show 1,2,3 and 5. 2 seems most common.

Accurate Armour do a very useful set on their Centurion decal sheet - product DE 18 - this includes the Dhow insignia.
'Not too sure about the bridge classification for Ambulances; the bog-standard long wheel base Land Rover I drove whilst at HQ 3 Div had "2" on it; the tendency was to round weights up - I can't imagine that the Ambulance version was that much heavier. I know this doesn't help much but I'm sure someone on the site will come up with something. I did notice however, that the actual weights were often omitted - perhaps to be added only in time of hostilities or similar, so a plain yellow (or grey) disc wouldn't be amiss; mind you, for Aden I've probably just destroyed my own argument!

Two photographs of 57 FG 54 I found on Google Images show a 3, but, I think, in preservation. Others show a blank disk.

Aha! If in doubt look at the larger scales: I'd forgotten about Kit Form Services who do some cracking models but in 1:24. I have often used their site in the past for reference when tackling 1:35, but I was unaware that they'd done an Ambulance. They are no slackers when it comes to research and I've identified their Land Rover Ambulance which sports a bridge weight of "3". Good enough for me.

Finally finished! Thanks to all of you for your input and assistance. 24th Field Ambulance, RAMC, Middle East Command(Aden), Aden. 1965. Damn sticky thumb haunted me at the end..... Thumbprint in glue on the windshield and the front half of the front licence plate stuck to my thumb. Mud splashes hide a multitude of sins.

I used desert yellow with black scheme.
Desert tyres were salvaged from Tamiya SAS "pink panther" kit.

As near as I could figure the vehicles were base of Deep Bronze Green (Standard color of the time) painted over with light stone. Although I've seen photos which sure look black. Light Stone looks pretty much like what you used.
