In reality the fridge is the same. But, AS1 fridge is mounted differently to the M1. So, the AS1 fridge from Mouse House is not quite the "correct" fridge for the M1.

The AS1 Fridge supplied from Mouse House ticks all the boxes for me.
Looks very similar to the images posted at this site.
There is also other images showing the support bracing on each side of the fridge.

and the Fox decals are pirated prints from Echelon.

Let me address a false statement that can ruin a company business.

They do not look like pirated copies to me.

Hello,

Back again with a small update on Progress.

Still working on the 50 cal, it is not glued in yet.the ammo box and sighting system still needs to be added.

The main stowage is glued in place with the small pieces to be glued in the outer racks.Figures and decals to be added.
The inside of each road wheel received a coat of Vellajo diorama effects along with wash's and pigment.

Still a long way to go with the base to be made up.That's where all the fun starts.

Thank you for your comments.

After posting the images the smoke launcher tubes did not look deep enough.
Both smoke housings had been removed and the tubes have been drilled out. The electrical wiring had also been added into the rear of each launcher.

There was also more work to the Commanders 50 cal with the addition of the thermal sight, ammo box and electrical wiring.

Hello,

It has been awhile since posting as I have been head down trying to complete some kits for the year.

Happy to say I have and it is with great pleasure that I bring to you the completed images
of the Australian M1A1 Abrams.

Fantastic job, your model is a great piece of art. I wasn't sure what to do with my m1a1, you gave me the inspiration to do an aussie one someday. Speaking of which, can the dragon m1a1 aim be used as a donor kit ? Is there an available conversion for it ?

I'd be interested to know how you made your diorama base, if you want to share your technique.

Cheers !

Thank you Tom for your words.

I had questioned a few people on which M1A1 KIt could be used to represent an Australian Variant.
The verdict was the Dragaon M1A1 SEP variant.
I had searched a few hobby suppliers and EBAY and found I could not get the kit under $100.000 Aust.
I did some research and found with a few mods the USMC Meng Kit was a huge saving at $60+ dollars.

Suggest to email Mouse House Enterprises to see if he has any of the Arms Corps detail sets done for the Australian variant that is no longer around.
Here is the donar kit

Here is an example layout of ground work similar to what was done for the Aussie Abrams base.

I used foam pieces cut to shape and glued to the timber base.
The example base below was intended for the kit but I changed my mind and went to the square form base with grass matt ripped in sections.

The M1A1 base was made in this format.
2 pieces of foam stuck together with glue and toothpicks.

Wall filler was used to cover the whole base. One Option is to mix black and raw umber acrylics with the wall filler to give a dark base. It dries in a lighter colour so the darker the mix the better.

I experimented with the Vallejo ground work texture and found it is ideal to use for groundwork. The trick is to apply the grass matt in sections or static grass, rocks, tree branches..etc while the texture is still wet.

Hope this helps.

I picked up a few packets of 0.2mm brass Rod from the Brisbane Train show a few years back and have been using Rod for all vehicle arial mounts.

Drill out the arial mount with a micro drill bit, drop the arial in place and a dab of superglue.
You can also pick up the brass rod from BNA.

The figures are from Miniart USMC Tank crew set with Hornet head change.

Hi Michael,
Really enjoyed checking out your Aussie Abrams build.
I'm in the process of building the Tamiya 1/16 RC Abrams as a RAA variant.
Just a question regarding the paint scheme.
What colour is the undersides of the tank?
I'm thinking Olive Drab, same as the lower hull or is it Black?
I've tried a number of sites to see how the Auscam was applied over the original Desert Sand colour but no joy.
Regards, Clyde.

Great build and reference for my own. Mouse House is now out of business thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Does any know if there is another company making the update parts? Does anyone have the ability to cast copies or possess drawings to scratch build them?

I don't think Mouse House is out of business due to Covid 19, I think he just wanted to retire - which of course comes to all of us.

He did advertise that his moulds were for sale to anyone (ie other firms) if they were interested but until his products appear within a new guise I don't suppose we'll ever know if anyone took up the offer.

Michael, great work on your Abrams ! Love the weathering, nice & restrained and the base too. I also like how the camera caught the reflection of the lenses, nice touch with that!

3 out of 3 Fosters for you Mister ! For quality & weathering !
