Searched my modelling magazin stash for articles about using pigments. Found a modeler who simply brushed on pigments diluted with turpentinoid. Tried this and it worked like a charm:

Also reworked the lower hull somewhat:

Now I am working with a dry, stiff brush to reduce the amount of pigments in places and to smooth out everything. Maybe I will add some pigments of different color to the upper hull too. Just to add some variety.

Enjoy!

Reworked the hull bottom with more pigments:

Added black pigments to the painted black exhaust spots:

After scrubbing off some pigments and adding some brighter pigments here and there as well as paintig the bolt heads and all edges with "Iraqi sand" the hull and turret are ready now:

You know that you have done enough wheathering when parts start to break off

Have to repair a few spots where I rubbed off the paint coat or broke off small parts. Next task is the wheatering of the wheels and tracks.

Enjoy!

Shaping up very nicely. Really like the hand applied look of the camouflage.

Now painting wheels and tracks. Tried some different earthcolored washs, because common track wash is muddy dark brown, not appropriate for a vehicle operating in arid conditions. There is a sand-colored paneel liner from Vallejo that fits the bill.

Guess I will add some pigments at the wheels and tracks too.

Enjoy

First track is on:

Really good fit here. Kudos, Takom!

Suggest to drill the holes of the wheels with a 3mm drill to ensure an easy fit and good alignment. Working and painting along the other track now.

BTW, I think my engine deck lovres are way too dark. Any opinions? Should here the base (sand) color more visible? Any M60 experts out there?

Quoted Text

I built both of their M-47s. I built the Pakistan version and Iranian version - had issues (my fault) with tracks both times. Pushed them together too much which created a shortened track length. Otherwise - awesome kit! Grabbed another to build another version!

Not your fault. I am also short of one link for the second track. Maybe one and a half. Well, some kind of desaster. Takom should have added two spare links, or made the track building template foolproof.

Solution: I will scratchbuild one link to fill the gap. Maybe some kind of "Franken-link", a bit longer than the original track links.

Stay tuned!

Here is the Franke-link:

It is a little bit longer than needed just to be sanded to fit after installation of the remaining track parts. The guide horn is simplified because it is mostly hidden inside a wheel.

Track fixed:

New end connectors are to be added, as well as some paint touch-ups.

The Frankeistein-link completed with end connectors, some boltheads, paint and a wash:

Check the upper right corner.

Last step at the hull is to add the headlight lenses and to peel off the tape from the drivers perioscope. Also adding the clear parts to the turret.

Enjoy
