Howdy Gino, very nice selective interchange project you have going.
I will be attempting the same yet taking a different route. Please keep us posted.

Hi, Gino!

It all looks GREAT!!! I've been following right along on this latest project of yours! NOTHING like good, old-school kit-bashing!!!

What is a AVLM?

Armored Vehicle Launched MICLIC (MIne Clearing LIne Charge) - M60 (or M48) bridge carrier chassis with the line charge boxes in place of the bridge sections. It is used to clear a lane through a mine field using an explosive line charge.

Got word from Mike, he will be building an M60A2-based AVLB, just using different chassis parts and making a unique vehicle from the left-over parts.

From Mike,
"I am going to use the AFV Club A-deuce hull for the AVLB and put the A2 turret on an M48 hull ala the "Franken-Tanks"' that used to inhabit Carpenter Test Site at Ft Knox. The maintenance school M88 pukes used to do prac-app recovery with them."

Sound interesting.

Great, I'll follow this build here where I can login.

I also heard (read) criticism of the inner parts of the bridge but it looks fine from here. Like you said, they really can't be seen anyway.

Thanks Gino.
Now AFV will make a MICLIC and a M60 AVLB. Now scratch a M800 series Truck and AFV will make those.

Thanks guys.

I have finished construction. It is ready for paint, which I will probably not get to until next weekend.

I finished up the details on it. First, I redid the water/fuel can holder on the rear of the turret ring. The kit one was chunky and undersized. I used a resin water/fuel can holder, some sheet styrene, and a resin footman's loop at the top. A resin water or fuel can fits into it nicely.

Next, I added the smoke grenade launchers and their storage boxes.

Then I added hydraulic lines for the piston on the bridge and the two on the erector mechanism.

I also added stiffening ribs on top of the erector arm. I also had to rebuild the hinge on it after a super glue mishap locked it up. You can also see the smoke launcher and its storage box below as well.

Lastly, I added the tow cables on the left side of the turret ring.

Paint is next, hopefully soon. I still haven't decided how I will paint it. I am leaning toward a NATO camo M60 chassis and green bridge so I can use the decals from the kit. Or I may do a sand M60 chassis and camo or green bridge w/homemade decals. We shall see.

Good work! You are going to rework the bridge? I added some details which are missing.

Mike, Richard, and Damon. Thanks for looking in and glad you like it.

Andreas, I was not planning on adding anything else to the bridge, but... What did you add/change on yours? I could spend some more time updating before paint.

Looking great, Gino. Can’t wait to get my hands on one of these. One question, why did you add someone else’s smoke grenade boxes? Did the kit not come with them or were they crappy?

Hi James and thanks. The kit only includes the launchers, which I also replaced since they didn't look as good and the mounts are different anyways. I'm not sure if the M48 version had the storage boxes on it, so the kit may not be incorrect.

Gino, yes you can do. It's quite easy.
First you can add a rod on both ends of the siccor bridge halfs between the ramps. You can see it in the last posted M1074 JABS picture.
Kit part J32+J33 can you split and install it on the top and the lower bridge halfs (step 18, instruction shett), close the the open side with plastic sheet. This parts connects the elevation mechanism with the bridge for elevation.
Also you can scratch kit parts J49, J46 and install both on the opposite bridge half.
Check out primeportal.net, may you can find some good reference pics or Tankograd American Special no 3022.
I described it in my own words, maybe I can post some pictures in the next days.

Thanks Andreas. That all sounds very doable. I was wondering why the two halves didn't have the same support parts.
