Gareth,
Before you shell out your hard earned pennies check your emails as I've just sent an extract from Militaria Magazine from Sep 95 which might provide most details required for 1944 equipments and uniforms.

Hi Dennis, and a big cheers back to the States,
Thanks for continuing to take the time to offer support and advice, and I'm pleased that you’re finding some interesting information from those people that have been kind enough to contribute, .
Your update on the content of the Bill Horan book has convinced me to invest in a copy but, before I do, I have looked for the other book you referenced and have found this...
'The World War II Tommy: British Army Uniforms, European Theatre, 1939-45, in Colour Photographs'
It's by Crowood Press, but not the authors you referenced, it's listed as - Martin J. Brayley & Richard Ingram - could it be the book you were referring to?
Thanks again, and cheers, .
G
Hello, Gareth!
Yes, this is the book that I was referring to- As I said in my earlier post, my edition of this book is at another location, so yes, I DID make a mistake as far as the authors were concerned. I did say that I BELIEVED the authors were Windrow & Hawkins, but that's not as important as having the book itself. GLAD YOU FOUND IT!!!

Hi Dennis,
Sorry for the delay in responding, but thanks for confirming that it is the same book…much appreciated.
Also, just to let you know, the Bill Horan book you kindly recommended should arrive this week. I managed to get a second-hand copy...the blurb says it’s in very good condition, so fingers crossed...for a snip, £1-80 + postage, so really chuffed about that, ...thanks again for your heads-up on that one.
Cheers, .

Hi all,
Having had some time away from this build due to a bout of...'good weather', , I’ve managed to get a few hours play, ermmmmm, I mean modelling time in today as the weather has returned to something more akin to the norm for the UK at this time of the year...cold and wet, .
I've not managed much, but all the little bits count...and it's better than nowt at all, .
Earlier in this build log I mentioned that, imho, I thought the Gecko helmets looked wrong, the brim being a tad misshapen. Of course, it is entirely possible, nay likely, that it is me who is wrong, , and that Gecko have produced a correctly proportioned item, however, after a week away from looking at them, I am still not keen on them…has anyone else purchased a set and found the same thing?
Anyway, I have decided to try and 'soften' the perceived look by adding some netting to the Gecko helmets (see images below).
I will probably try and add some ‘scrim’ to a couple of these and will leave the Tamiya ones...which look good...uncovered, so as to give some variation to figures.
Cheers, .

Hello, Gareth!
Happy to see that you're taking the very fascinating hobby of figure-painting seriously. It will reap rewards for you personally, if not in forums or shows. Also happy to see that there was a proper "meeting of minds", regarding the "WWII Tommy" book!
I wouldn't worry very much about your Bill Horan book arriving in bad condition, especially for that LOW, LOW price! THAT'S what I call a "bargain"!
