Hi All,

1:35 scale Panther Ausf A in France 1944.

Recipe

The tank is from Tamiya and was built straight out of the box and the figures areva mix of Miniart, Zvezda and Tamiya. The cam net is from Verlinden and the foliage is from Woodland Scenics.

The base is a picture frame and I used foam to build up the levels and covered the base with a mix of spakfilla, sand and dirt. The tree's were done by using small branches from a dead tree and I used Woodland Scenics foliage for the leaves as well as the bushes.

The static grass is also from Woodland Scenics and the small tufts off grass are from Army Painter. I used Vallejo, AK interactive, Army Painter paints and pastel chalks to paint and weather the figure's, tank and dio.

VERY NICE, Ron! Congrats on a beautifully executed kit, figures and dio! This is a PRIME EXAMPLE of what can be done with an older TAMIYA Panther kit!

Superb Ron. Stunning use of that old Tamiya monster. Figures and setting excellent too.

Very nice dio. Reflects the overall feeling of Normandy'44.

Outstanding scene! Another example of how creativity & imagination can produce fine results with older kits. Really enjoy seeing your work, Ron!

Really great job, except for the one mistake lots of people keep making: the two outer pipes on the left-hand exhaust are cooling intakes so they don't suffer heat corrosion like the exhaust itself does.

As everyone else has said....great work on this diorama! It would be great to see a figure painting "how to" in the future. Or even a step by step on your dio process.

Hi Ron,

Once again you have done an EXCELLENT job with vehicle, figures and the scenery!

I noted that there is no antenna on the vehicle...any reason for leaving it off?

Just curious.

Cheers,
Joe

I probably would have done the same thing but my first Panther was a G with the later exhausts, but once I started digging around to see why one pipe had three parts it became obvious. There was a duct provided to pass warm air from the engine's cooling system, but it had the adverse effect of reducing the amount of cool air across the left side manifold. The two small pipes were added to pull in more air and thus did not get hot enough to heat corrode. When the G was developed, changes were made to the cooling system and the pipettes were deleted. Now you have the taller fan housing on the Panthers and single-pipe exhausts. There is a running A with the triple exhausts and you can see it IRL. I would post a pic but I am on my phone in a hotel 400 miles from home, but I can do so by Monday if interested for a future build. And who wouldn't want to build another Panther, right? This also applies to the early Jagdpanthers.

Hey Shell,

Thanks heaps for this info mate I really appreciate it and yeah when you can I would love to see the pics that would be great thank you.

The Panther is my favourite tank out of all of them and I built another old Tamiya Panther kit before this one and did the same thing so more info the better I also say.

Great work Ron, many of us built that 1969 Tamiya kit too & best thing was to cover it in natural camo! Your foliage is some of the best I’ve seen in any dio & I’d be interested to know its constituents

Thanks heaps Tim and for the larger trunks I just use twigs and then drill holes and then use Woodland Scenics Fine leaf foliage and break off what I need and insert them into the holes. For the smaller/thinner trunks I just break off what I need from the Fine leaf foliage clumps and drill a hole and attach the tree into the drilled hole.
