The conversion set looks really good, I'll have to start removing parts from their resin pouring blocks.

I've built the Steyr / Tamiya conversion but, added a 20mm flak. I'll try and attach a couple of pics of the build but, I think that you'll find the conversion and build a lot of fun.

Needs an engine, oh wait I can get that in resin. Could use extra detail in the chassis (after all I am the chassis guy) fairly easy detail additions.

I didn't realize that the Tamiya Steyr was so controversial. I have all of the reference material available on it and it looks pretty close to me. Every model needs a few tweaks here and there depending on how accurate you want it to be.

Dan I am not sure if you are kidding or not.
For myself I have to admit I am put off a bit by the current rash of 500+ part truck kits. They build up beautifully of course, if you can get thru them. To me the Tamiya Steyr kit is near perfection.
Great kit, easy to assemble with just a few details missing so as to satisfy my desire to do a little scratch building and modification.

More or less stock Kommandeurwagon:
Chop-shop and scratch built Steyr cargo truck (with resin engine):
Some added frame and underbody details:
E-brake cables, weight reduction frame holes, step braces and battery box.
Cabling, weight reduction frame holes and brake drum for the Kommandeurwagon.

I never said wrong, I said bad.
It's typical of the sort of comments you get on here, leading those who don't have experience of the Tamiya kit to assume that it's a bad model. Reality is that the Tamiya kit is a good solid kit. With the potential to add more detail if that's your thing.
It follows a tried and tested approach that Tamiya has used successfully for years.
Maybe you'd like Bronco to take a stab at it, then see how many modellers complain over unnecessary complicated, fiddly parts to achieve what could have been replicated in two or three with the same result. More parts for more parts sake rather than to build something with more detail.

It's what I asked after a comment was made about needing a more "up to date" kit, but it appears that there isn't anything other than it doesn't have 500+ parts in it to make up a model that would probably look much the same.

Again, in my mind, I would add a well done engine to the Tamiya kit but really, other than that, both the field car and the Kommandeurwagon are both excellent examples of recent technology, well engineered scale models.
Both auto bodies are very well done, the separate ladder frames are excellent. Detailing is plentiful and delicate and the solid plastic wheels and tires are very spot-on!
