Damn it!! This in box review makes me want to buy this and add to my collection of 1/35 Beetles but I've promised my wife no more KDF/VW kits.

Any strategies to get round this welcome?

The only issue with this model is that it is not the Type 82E.
The Type 82E was a Kaffer body placed on Kubelwagen chassis.
If you take a closer look at the sprues or the manual you will see half-shafts of the front axle and the second shift lever mounted on the frame tunnel. There is also a big square fuel tank under the hood. So the suspension and other details indicates that it is a four-wheel drive Type 87.
And the new problem is that all 87's had a big folding top.

So, if you want to build a Type 82e you have to change the front suspension and frame tunnel.
And if you are going to build a Type 87 you have to cut a big hole in the roof.

By the way, I've bought two of them

That car is owned by Jesse James, ex-husband of Sandra Bullock. It has had other work done to it so it is far from original now, nor was it driven or ridden in by Goering.

great reference site; thank you.

I just finished the Revell kit and wished I had seen this site a month ago. I was going back & forth trying to make sense of several "almost" details. it's going to 'paint' now so we've gotten practice for the next one!

thanks again.

Thanks for the review. It's enough for me....I'm getting one.
You think this is hard to hide from your wife? I just bought the Italeri S-100 Schnellboot. The package arrived while I was working and she picked it up at the post office. It was almost as big as her. I told her I worked hard and it was a present from me to me. Luckily she didn't ask what it cost! Whew.

That is a big box. The box it is shipped in is a monster as well.

I would like to thank you all for your support with my potential problem. I think if I order it online and have it delivered to my office I should be able to sneak it through the house to my workshop/staff in the garage without detection.

Nor is he a descendant of the Jesse James, as he claims.

I saw this at my LHS for $31 Cdn which is not bad if you compare it to the old Mirage/CMK/Italeri VW, and similar vehicles like the Tamiya or Hero Hobby Kubelwagen . A shame it has the same mistakes as the CMK one.
