...Someone asks about ships transported from Germany to the Black Sea.
Some of the ships/vessels transported:
...16 Schnellboote (torpedo boats)...

Here is one of the S-Boots, transported on two Culemeyers:

The planned successor to the Dragon Wagon; the Sterling: (Unfortunately never put into production.)

I always thought; hey, buy a couple of DW Recovery vehicles and an M4 High Speed Tractor, mix the boxes together, shake twice, and I might have one of these!

Be sure to check out the great book on the subject by Tony Gibbs;
"Sterling T26 Discovered"

Wow, what an interesting thread this became! Thanks to all who have contributed. The towed S-boot is my fave. But none of planes being towed?

And good to see health and safety in the workplace, too. Even in 1930-40 Germany.

Planes are very light by comparison and would not need a Culemeyer trailer to haul them. (A B-29 Superfortress had an empty weight of 37 tons/33,000 Kg, about the same as a later Sherman tank.) They are more an issue of bulk but with the wings and tail removed they are manageable with regular equipment.

Thank you KL, HP. Incredible factoid about the B29 and the M4. I can say I had never contemplated the comparison.

Well here's the tug boat.

And a nice picture of a Culemeyer '2 axle unit'. From the picture above you can see there are 6 axles, with 2 wheels each. Also interesting is the parked Omnibus. Not sure about the Omnibus, but looks like Saurer?

While not a period piece, the same folks that are enjoying this thread will warm to the following image.

As seen at a rest stop along I-64 in Central Kentucky.

Know that whatever that monster casting is that it is hauling, it has this heavy rig broken down and waiting for a Master Welder to do repairs.

Well, such accidents happen when you go barging down a hill in snowy/slippery conditions.
They seem to have been standing there for a while since snow has settled on the topside of the wheels.
They should have cleared and sanded that road before attempting to go down the slope.

In June 1940, a Culemeyer trailer and a Kaelble Z6V2A tractor were used to transport the iconic "Compiègne Wagon", in which the First and Second Armistice were signed, to Berlin to be exhibited :

In 1950, a Culemeyer trailer (towed by a Diamond T tractor) was used to transport an identical wagon (the genuine one had been destoyed in 1945) back to the original location :
