I have seen conflicting info on the color for the stock Sherman Vs. US OD , as delivered or SCC15? I know the Firefly conversions were repainted with the SCC15 when modified. What about the regular ones? I've heard they were repainted if in for major rebuilds but left OD otherwise.

That’s correct. They left the Chrysler factory in US olive drab.

I know they arrived in US paint . I know when converted to Fireflys and if the tank went in for major work they were repainted SCC15. Where the standard issue, run of the mill ones generally repainted?

No, they would not have generally been repainted unless it was absolutely necessary, due to a refit/repair or major upgrade. You would be totally safe portraying a standard Sherman V in US OD.

Also bear in mind that SCC15 was developed specifically to match US OD close enough to let only the reworked parts of a tank get repainted, rather than having to paint the whole vehicle. After all, there was a war on...

That was the general read I got, but there were a number of mentions of maniacal NCOs having troops re paint things just because they could. Thanks , all. Always glad to get extra input.
