On the instructions, did anyone notice the power units were not built with the lift arms attached at the 5th wheel equivalent? If the gun is set up to fire, the tractors would be away, with the fork shaped arms attached to them. This is the same error, on the Renwal version. That kit had the arms attached to the gun carriage and left there, when in "firing " mode.

Very large image showing a disconnected M65:

Step 61, final step for gun in firing mode:

The instructions do not contain a step showing the power units with arms in the disconnected mode.
This setup is lacking:

small cutout from the image I linked to above.
What lifts up the fork so that it can go in on top of the gun carriage? See red arrow.
Should the lower ends of those hydraulic rams be resting on some kind of holder on the front end of the power unit?

Front unit

Rear unit

IF the rams should rest on thos hooks it may require some plastic surgery since the length of the rams is fixed

I'm pretty sure the S36 loop sets in the hooks and the lower end of the lift cylinder hangs down. That loop is what caught under the "claws" at the ends of the carriage to lift it up so that the locking wedges could be installed.

I think we can see why companies do not provide this sort of information far before their releases . . .

That's not true about the Renwal kit:

The Revell History Makers box top showed it that way to fit everything in frame

But the kit certainly was set up to keep the forks mounted to the trucks.

It's also not true about the new kit. On page 56 the instructions show the gun set in firing position and the forks are not in place.

NEAT! One of the issues with moving this huge gun was that the loaded and moving length was such that it could not fit thru some small European town and streets. I always thought it would be neat to build one that had jumped a curb and hit a house or the like, but I don't have those skills....

I've added this kit to my wish list. Now, I've got to donate the old Renwal kit to the upcoming IPMS show raffle and buy a bigger display case!

I have the old Adams kit and the hydraulic cylinders on the y forks have springs in them so you can pull them down to hook up the carriage.

Definitely going on the short list. I really don't need something that will dwarf my M1070/M1000 but I gotta have it. I hope they slide mold the barrel pieces. That would be one long seam to sand.

Nice, Thanks for the links! It's impressive to see the Guns on the move. Just think of driving them on the German roads, or thru the small towns!

Funny, I just “googled” it, and there’s a lot of buzz about it over on Missing Lynx, but still no known company behind it. But as Kurt Laughlin pointed out (Missing Lynx), that’s not a normal Trumpeter number. Additionally, that diagram is suspiciously like a Dragon diagram, and was released last year when this subject first came out, now we have box art, but no sprue shots of any type. It’s not above certain manufacturers to release printed material before a kit comes out to “test the waters” so to speak. But there are a great many kits that never see the light of day (personally, I’d very much like this to be real). However, there are a lot of other kits that flop before ever making it to the molds. I’ll give you an example: The Dragon 1/700 1962 USS Enterprise, which was widely advertised and then dropped due to cost and interest. There are others. If this is an independent manufacturer trying to “break into the market” there may be doubt as to their ability to sustain a production run— especially if this would be their first offering. I’d have a lot more confidence in it if it was a known manufacturer, and there was an address associated with this company, so far, all we have are a couple of ads in a magazine (and even those are a bit suspicious to me) although to go to that expense says they either have some capital or are “phishing” for capital. Something just doesn’t look right in the packaging, numbering and presentation of this kit to the market to be an HB or Trumpeter kit.

There's a well-known brand behind, and there is a kit coming.

Ok, I’ll bite. From the instructions I now believe it’ is pending, sometime. But it’s very frustrating when folks say “the kit is on the way, by a well known manufacturer” without references. I suspect it is, but why hide it? To make revelations like this without reference, is considered speculation. I guess I’d just ask for folks to tell us “how” they know something is in the works.

The ilovekit website doesn't even list it. If you check out the site, you'll notice that you're taken to Easy Model and both are Trumpeter/Hobby Boss subsidiaries.

I sent the seller a message regarding the kit. Let's see what he has to say.

Now might be a good time to pimp my Atomic Annie Walk Around. Here's why: I first got into this when Trumpeter posted images of their M1117 sprues. I had one parked practically outside my hooch, and the suspension was off. Way off. I sent them photos, and to my surprise they re-engineered the kit.
I can tell you from what I see in these instructions you're going to need a good reference. Those of you who have purchased my Walk Arounds in the past know that no bolt goes undiscovered. These are 579 photos of THREE different guns - Yuma, Ft. Sill, and Albuquerque. There are photos of the undercarriage on the trucks, and photos of the bowels of the gun carriage. It will not disappoint.

I have some doubts about the Ebay posting— it shows California as the seller location, 266 sales, but when you open it up there are 63 positives and 0 negatives. Not to mention it shows more than 10 available, and 1 sold already for $259. More to follow I’m sure....as I said before, I guess we’ll see. As to my comments about posting without references— being the photographer of something still doesn’t answer the question about what manufacturer or the secrecy (having worked in the industry a bit, I know there are good reasons for secrecy, but I don’t quite know why there would be so in this case).

If that last statement was about me as a photographer, I'm not trying to answer questions about anything at all. I've sold two of these walk arounds this morning, and those folks can make their own determinations when they purchase the kit.
Personally I find no advantage to secrecy. When I used to announce something that we'd see from Legend soon, other resin manufacturers were not racing to get the same product out sooner.
By showing their sprue shots before releasing the M1117, Trumpeter actually benefited by being able to remedy the incorrect parts before it was too late. Unfortunately another well known manufacturer continues to ignore comments made on this forum, while the masses chime in with comments like "That's just a CAD image, the model will be more accurate." And guess what? They've dropped the ball so many times their label is associated with Black Death.,

Robert,
My comment about the “photographer” was not directed at you at all. It was directed at Shell Bush’s comment above about the person that made the claim (Javier) being the “photographer” of something. I’m not sure what Javier is the photographer of. Obviously, some confusion between postings, either by me, or in the order the postings came in. I was merely responding to Javier and subsequently Shell’s comments.

The “secrecy” part is exactly as you have said above. There really is no advantage for a manufacturer to use secrecy to market a product, unless they are trying to prevent other manufacturers from undermining sales. But there is another reason for “pseudo secrecy”— to purposely “let slip” or plant a “secret” to find out if demand will support the cost of tooling. This is why some projects never see the light, while others do, and why some manufacturers “hold projects” in favor of others. I don’t see anything wrong with that—it’s just business. But that’s also why I’m a bit apprehensive about this. Personally, I hope it all works out, as a new M165 has been on my list for a long time.

I studied the M165 during my Prefix-5 nuclear targeting days. Sadly, it’s historical impact is often overshadowed by later developments, and we’ve needed an up-to date kit for a long time—let’s hope this one is for real (I’ve built the venerable 1/32 Renwall/Monogram version several times, and have the 1/72 Dragon kit in the stash— it’s OK, but needs a lot of work). So it’s really about time somebody got around to doing a 1/35 version. The $259 price tag on this one is a bit daunting— compared to other large Trumpeter, Merit and HB kits (if they are truly behind this) it seems a bit high for a large production run, but I suppose it is commensurate with the detailing.

Hmmm...Like the SADM? I was on a Green Light team. I'm all too familiar with that archaic piece of technology. They still have one in Albuquerque at the Atomic Museum.
