Do you use dullcote through your airbrush? I've had great success with that.
On the Tamiya paints, don't use X-21 as a clear coat. It is a flat base you can add to glossy paints to make them flat. I have not tried XF86 which is supposed to be a matt clear finish - I've heard of people using it that way.
When I used dullcote out of a rattle can I would occasionally get white spots on a finished model. Putting another coat on it (which was very hard emotionally) actually cleared it up.
