Doing some research for my next dio, an USMC M5A1 Stuart on Saipan in 1944. Need some "sage" advice on the correct "Marine Green" color for the Stuart. I see that both AK and MIG sell paint sets with WWII USMC green.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Tamiya XF-62 is the best basic color but looks too dark on a model. Use 2/3 Tamiya XF-62 + 1/3 Tamiya XF-60 for the "scale" version of olive drab and 1/2 XF-62 + 1/2 XF-60 for a "weathered/faded" olive drab. Pure XF-62 can be used for drybrushing edges where the original color is visible.

It does not appear that much, if any, equipment was delivered in Marine Corps Green during the war. No. 9 Olive Drab was standard on production lines.

The Docks and Yards color corresponding to Marine Corps Green is the color later given the number FS 34079 in the FS 595 color guide decades later. It came back into use after the war, as equipment was repainted. In the late 1950's, a darker version was used, FS 34054, but the Marines reverted to the lighter shade in the 1960's.

You saved me from using "USMC Forest Green" .... as my photo research didn't show that it would have been accurate for WWII USMC tanks not painted in camo schemes.
