Hi there
The London Metro features a warning today about Netsky-V, a new e-mail based virus.
Whereas previous viruses have been carried in e-mail attachments, Netsky-V is triggered simply by clicking on the subject line of the e-mail.
Subject lines found so far include:
mail delivery sytem (sic) failure
mail delivery failed
server system failure
gateway system failure
The first line of the e-mail contains messages such as "converting message, please wait" and "please wait, while loading failed message".
So, be extra wary of any unsolicited e-mails, whether or not they have an attachments.
Take care
Rowan

That helps, but you get whats called "0 day" bugs
where the virus authors have a little window of time before the AV industry writes and distributes the antidote.
So you need the AV Software, and sure as heck it needs to be current like you suggest, but you also need sane practices like the Major suggests.
And MS Outlook Express is a built in denial of service since it still tries to autodisplay most anything.
If youre concrened, google for "Eudora" which is free, and a lot less politically motivated in why its such a security nightmare...

What's up mate, don't you want a miracle patch or pill to make your 'johnson' bigger? we get about 100 of those a day along with porn ads, and about 15-20 get past the spam blocker. It should be made a criminal offence punishable by hanging or public castration using a rusty penknife and no anasthetic, along with pop-up adverts, cold-call phone marketing and junk mail.
Funny thing is that most of the 'make-it-bigger' ads go to my wifes email address!

I had it, and yes, it snuck in in the first week it was out. It absolutely covered my comp...it was fairly simple to remove..McAfee had a special app to destroy it., but it did take time. Pervasive sucker...Oh well, All's well that ends well.
Cheers.

Hi Golikell
You're quite right! Sorry, I was guilty of taking it for granted that we all have up-to-date anti-virus software installed... this should be a wake up for anyone who hasn't!
These e-mail based viruses rely on people's naivete to sneak in so, if you get any e-mails you don't recognise, don't take a risk - just delete them. (I always reckon if it's valid and important, whoever it is will try again...)
All the best
Rowan
