I wanted to share my idea for a new desktop work mat for building models. I had a silicone one for years that just wore out and started looking for a replacement. The one thing I disliked about the one I had prior was the difficulty in cleaning it. I checked on-line and found various options - all very expensive since it had "hobby" in the title. My son-in-law had something from citadel that was an option but also $24 or so.

Now, I do work at Target, so I decided to see what we had... then I found it - a nice 15x24-ish pet food dish mat. Raised edges to catch stuff, easily cleaned with damp cloth and black so most parts stand out while building. I got it yesterday and started right in - it was perfect… and costs under $7.00 before shipping. Most Targets have it in-stock, but alas mine did not, so I ordered it on-line - just thought I'd share.

Interesting find. How does it stand up to knife cuts?

I like the idea on having a slight raised edge but not on my side.

Brilliant. Some of the best things in our hobby were never intended for model building.

Thanks for the info. Fostering puppies and kittens currently, I am not sure there is much difference between the two sometimes.
