TASC over on North Fort made solid resin ID models starting in 1/35 & going up to maybe 1/16 scale of NATO & WP stuff. I recall a TOW gunnery barn over on North Fort too.
We had VIZMODS for running TOW tables. Came with kits to mount on HMMWVs. They were slightly scaled down profiles of T72s etc
American Eagle was a great hobby shop both in Tacoma & Seattle up in Ballard.

I remeber the Joy ride! The tank was from Sullivan Bks for either 3/68 or 5/68 Armor from the 8th Infantry Divison! The Germans where worried that the main gun would be able to fire, needless to say, no Kaboom! Man that was a mess and the talk of the time!Quoted TextQuoted TextQuoted TextDidn't that happen at Grafenwoehr back in the 80's? I seem to remember one of the crew was killed. We caught it as flash traffic in Berlin.
I think that one was intentional, but could be different incident??
.... yes there was a M60 intentionally shooting the M60 in front of it .... murder charges ... court martial .... the whole lot. Turns out one GI didn't like his superior .....I believe it was in the mid 80'ties but not sure it happened in Grafenwöhr. I also recall an M60 rampaging through Frankfurt City .... drove off a bridge committing suicide around the same time.
Cheers
Christopher

I recall those old PC M1 tank sim games back in the 1990s that stated that the M1 Abrams had a Laser Warning System (LWS).
Decades later, to my surprise, the M1A2 SEP V4 will have a Laser Warning System installed, meaning there isn't one in all of the M1s out there (please correct me if I am wrong).
If the M1s had LWS that automatically fired the smoke grenade launchers when lased like some NATO MBTs, then perhaps this incident wouldn't have happened and the gunner or TC would have recognized the popping smoke as a friendly unit. Once again, this makes me wonder if the M1A2's entire turret should be redesigned and a new turret installed with Trophy and LWS.
Just goes to show who has the best MBTs around....debatable.

Certainly within the criteria of military mishaps I recall in the early 80s 2 British soldiers stole a FV 432 from their base in Osnabrueck one evening (I think) and went off joyriding down a railway track, only to meet an express train. Both were killed. I am assuming drink had been partaken.
Not a mishap as such, but i'm sure its true that some guy stole a Stalwart and tried to take it across the Channel. Turned back because he'd not enough fuel or something like that.
