Looking for Clansman Radios in 1/35 scale, to mount in Land Rovers and man pack, i have no idea which type i need, so all help gratefully received, many thanks

Not sure if you can get them in 1/35 but, in our land rovers (Tank Sqn) , depending who's C/S it was you would be looking a single or dual fit 353's. The Sigs troop in RHQ would have 353, 320 & 321's and it wasn't unheard of to have a 351 on a Bergen frame mounted in a LRover.
Actual Sigs Sqns or Regts would have other specialist radio fits.
Try and Google search and that will give you some good images...
And also the various ancil boxes and cables to make the magic work.

As with all things British, my first move would be to check Accurate Armour. I did a Warrior many moons ago with their interior and it came with a Clansman Radio. And from building several Chieftains I know they do Clansman aerial bases. I don't know if they offer the Clansman separately, but I have obtained certain parts from them in the past just by asking. You may have some luck there.

Takom include four 353s with their 432 kit, the maximum number of useable VHF sets on the 432 is three. . Accurate Armour produce the wing mounted TUAAMs. Sadly I’m not aware of any 351/353 man packs in 1/35 or the clip in kit.

Accurate Armour definitely makes some Clansman sets, so worth asking if they can supply just those parts.

I’m in the process of sorting some Clansman Radios out for my FV 436 command vehicle. I have a couple of very good friends who are up to speed with CAD and 3D printers. The test prints are looking very encouraging and so far we have done DMU units, VRC 321, 25w TURF and SURF with some RCU’s. I’m trying to talk one of my friends into doing the CAD for a SCRA(T) unit.
I’m away from my PC at the moment but I’ll post up some pictures at some point.
Standard Royal Signals FFR radio fit:- 1x VRC 321, TURF, SURF for the HF , twin VRC 353 Zulu fit, each radio would have a DMU cypher unit and associated crypto. 2x Racal 8m masts and 1x Clark 12m mast all with associated elevated antennas. Wire Dipole for HF and 2x EVHF for the VHF sets.
We never used clip in kits for man packs on the FFR Dets, you wouldn’t need them, we did sometimes carry a PRC344 UHF manpack if we needed to talk to Air assets.

I was Royal Engineers my fit while driving the boss was 2x 353z (353 with DMU) and a 321. I didn’t carry the masts as we were generally following the brigade HQ. We rarely fitted the 351 clip in kits but might be found in the troop Land Rovers as we did get a little short of 353s.

Gotta say Dan, they look outstanding the TURF and SURF especially so. Are you doing 353s as well ? They would be great in a Landrover build I'm planning. will they be produced in the future for sale or were you just doing them for your own project ? (which is looking equally good)

This was originally just for planned for myself as part of the 436 conversion. Now the 250/11, I did think about it but the unit is still classified even though it’s no longer in service and obsolete. There are no pictures for one anywhere only the simulator so thought it best to leave it out. No friends in Crypto as they say.
The Clansman kit was done by 2 very good friends of mine, both modellers and ex forces. I think with all the attention these items are getting that you might just see them appear for sale by a AM company in the near future. As for the 353 I didn’t need to print any as you get 2 in the Takom 432 kit. I’ll have to have a chat and see if we can print some.

To confirm what i am looking for is Clansman radio back packed and Land rover mounted radios which would enable an Infantry platoon/company to communicate with their battalion HQ

The Clansman VRC range of radios were fitted to soft skinned vehicles and Armoured, same mounting trays , same cables and ancillary items. The man pack PRC range were fitted into land rovers using a CIK Clip In Kit. I think you’ll be on your own with these as nobody has made them..Yet.
The VRC321 and 353 were the standard radios so will be suitable for your purposes mate.

Different fits, first up is a FFR type of fit,
Never seen one like this in my 12 years of service as a Radio Op
in the Royal Signals. This is a rebuilt civi wagon in my opinion.

Twin VHF Zulu and single HF setup, I did have Ptarmigan facilities in the back, the secure kit was also in the back of the wagon.
Our Squadron 432 Rebro dets carried 5x 353 zulu sets and the IBRRU box , they were used to extend the range of 2 secure VHF radio nets , the 5th set was used for engineering on the Comms Command net.

Yes crewed 436, as we usually deployed with Brigade HQ, depending on timeframe we may have crossed paths.

It’s got everything Brian, I for one wouldn’t want to take it cross country as I fear it might have a few stability issues with all that weight, we binned off the SURF on Land Rover Dets unless you were co located with other radio dets it didn’t really serve a useful purpose, just ballast so we left them behind normally or kept them in the trailer.

We have probably met then Brian, I did a stint as the CRA’s driver at 1 Div, until they found out that I was track qualified. I was moved sharpish to Div main and back in the commanders hatch of a 436. No more cushy FFR with heaters and the odd McD’s runs on exercise.

'Just caught up with this thread; we must have been at Bulford at the same time. I was PA to the GOC for my last 6 months of service, leaving in Jan 94. Even the modelling world is small!
I'd also be interested in getting hold of some of those radios.

I think there will definitely be a market for them Brian, I know I would snap them up and the ancil boxes, would be a great visual effect to see them in situ and wired in...
I was in Windsor 90 to 2005 so you all would of probably seen my CVR bouncing around down on SPTA as that place was our second home...

Just been chatting with the brains behind the Clansman radio stuff and they are looking at the viability of getting these out to the masses . I'll keep you updated, this project was originally only going to be really for limited consumption but it has sparked a lot of interest. Possible to see more Clansman stuff as well.
Brian, I used to get a lift home at the weekends with the GoC's driver, Albert T, you'd probably know him, top guy indeed.
