Hello everyone Here for your viewing pleasure is my latest build.
This is 2 cheap kits tamiya's Horch 4x4 1a and Tamiya's 20mmFLAK38. This conversion is scratchbuilt and prob isn't all that accurate I do have a picture of one of these field conversions but it was set in North Africa and didn't show how the gun was mounted so i used "artistic license" for the conversion and set mine on the eastern front.
this kit was basicly built so I could try out several different modeling ideas. one of which was useing chalk washes to do something to make the basic panzer grey scheme less...boring and grey. the other thing was making realistic looking wood from plastic strip styreen and making a "muddy" vehicle.
the wash was water and black pastel with a drop of dish soap to help it along.
The mud was tamiya putty, polyscale acrylic "dirt" paint and finly gound dirt.
There are more images on my website at the following url.. several of them are good closeups of the weathering..

I understand you are trying to model a field modified flak on a Horsch. I can imagine them bolting the flak to a wood platform. For some reason the platform looks whimpy to me. Maybe the boards are too thin. It just seems like the whole unit would rip off the platform with any sustained firing vibration.

Yes the wood would be a bit weak to hold the gun.. thats why its just a deck for the gunner and loader to walk upon. the Guns support base has been modified and bolted to a metal framework under the wood.........
what can i say "artistic licence" I didn't build this one to be super historicly accurate, but to have a little fun and try out some new idea's :>
and for some reason in most of the pics the gun came out looking darker than the vehicle even though they are almost the exact same shade of grey..
