Hi Guys
I've just finished the Italeri SdKfz10/4 as an OOB build. I'm not too confident in the 'winter white' finish so any criticism is welcome.

I would like to say that you have a fine example of a weather beaten over white. I especially like your suspension parts treatment. The front wheels and drive train look like they actually earn their keep. There does, however, seem to be a slight misalignment of the track under the drive sprocket on the right side view. Perhaps you may also want to tone down the over white that went around the corner of the first bin on the left side / overhead view. The edge of the paint seems a bit harsh and doesn't seem to blend with the rest of the model. Very slight problems on an attractive model.

I like it. It looks great. That flag sure is something, too. wow. I recently purchased this kit for damnably cheap and was wondering if you had any comments about the kit in general, Davecox? I was told that the drive sprockets have a diameter which is too large for the scale. Is this true? regards,

Dave, this looks great! I'm going to be on the hunt for one of these when I go to the contest in Calgary next week...Once again white washing is just one of those things that is hit or miss. that's why when I eventually get to doing a white wash vehicle, I will try it on an older already made guinnea pig first.
Oh, Dave were the tracks separate or my fave - the rubber band kind?
Great work again, Mate!

Thanks for the comments guy's.
19K - I made the mistake of following the instructions and placing the long lower lengths of tracks first so I ended up with a mis-match in the length, hence the bad allignment.
Colt - I didn't measure the sprocket, but in general it's a good kit and no fit problems.
Kelly - the tracks are link'n'length so not as bad as all indi-link.

DaveCox,
I like the flag on the hood, but your swastika is a little too big for the white surround. More white border needs to show. As for the winter white wash.......that is a
difficult scheme to portray ,but you have done a good job with execution on this. For
future ref. Fruimodel makes tracks and sprokets for the 250 / Sdkfz 7 type halftracks.
I have them and they are pretty good. more detail then the kit parts.

Thanks RotorHead67, I knew there was something wrong with that flag, but I couldn't see what it was!!
For the price of a set of Fruil tracks and sprockets I could buy two kits! so I won't be buying them for any model!

I always thought these halftracks were cool. I like how your work came out.
I don't think it really passes for whitewash, but the weathering treatment looks reallly good.

The only thing I notice in the picture of the right side is the end of the muzzle. It seems to be staright from the barrel to the end on top,but flared on the bottom. Is the muzzle on straight,or has it drooped down,or is it a photo glitch?

I have this kit,and previously built the 10/5.The tracks take careful planning.I tend to allow some distance make up slack between the lower roadwheels, and the idler and sprocket,to avoid a mismatch at the joint.

Hi Tankcarl, I think the muzzle flare has got lost against the grey backgound. This happens with this colour background, but I've found that it gives good results for the camera as it is close to Kodak 18% grey, the colour that most exposure meters are set for.

Dave,
It's OK, dont feel bad. Check out my Pnzr II in my gallery. I went to extremes the other way and have too much white. Fellow armor builders @ my club were quick to point that out,
and it kept me from placing higher in the competition we had.
I know how you feel about the Fruil tracks. I got lucky and got them on sale for $19. I plan to use them for my SdKfz 250's that I am building. They are pretty detailed.

The white is a heavy wash of 50/50 thinners and white acrylic, followed by a dry-brush of straight white, followed by the usual dark washes, dirt etc.

Nice work Dave.

What did you make your flag out of? It doesn't look like foil in the photo. It looks very realistic though, maybe a bit more dirty to look like the rest of the vehicle though.

Russ, the flag was a piece of real cloth left over from the tarp on my Move It! entry GMC CCKW352. It's not dirty 'cos it's not always attached, only when the Luftwaffe was operating in the vicinity - that's my excuse anyway!
