OK, Got a question...Where did this one sneak in? From what I know of the coding of AFV Club, when 'S' is added to the number it usually indicates it comes from Skybow. If this is the case, then this is CHEAP, the price quoted for this is only €19.90.... Any ideas?.. Jim

AFV Club M48H ROC MBT #AF35S-01
I posted about this kit last year and what's inside. It is a real mixed bag of parts from AFV Club and Academy. It looks like an interesting variant.

Having gone through the original thread (thanks for the link Rob) it seems like the most extraordinary mixture of manufacturers in one box...Thanks again, Jim

What's wrong with the hull front? The kit and the real tank is basically an M60A3 hull with an M48A5 turret brought up to near M1 fire control standards. Very interesting and inexpensive way to modernize your tank fleet. General Dynamics did the upgrades. I just wonder why they called it an M48H as opposed to an M60H. I guess they could have gone either way.

What I find unusual is the M16 mounted over the main gun.

The M-16 is for training.

On M-1's they mount a .50 cal. It a cheaper alternative than firing main gun rounds, yet still getting the gunnery experience

The kit has been around a short while - just not easy to find in the US and even less well-known. I have a different boxing of the M48H ROC (M48A5) kit. I don't think there is any difference between this current version and the older one I have. It is an interesting mix of different manufacturer's parts.

I had such a hard time finding the first one, I didn't want to mess with it until I found another one...

Gunny here's the exact link to the page with the AFV Club new stuff. It's not the easiest site to navigate.... Postage shouldn't be too bad, all the kits have weight marked at the side....

Both of my local shops carry this kit, it's just that they are marked in the $40+ range. Didn't want to pay that much money for a kit that consists of mediocre quality bits and pieces of other kits.

Hey Gunnie,
When you say you have the older version of this kit (M48A5) are you referring to the Academy kit #1355?

Joe

No - but the two are similar though...

Hi Gunnie,
I have the Academy kit and I didn't think they were the same, espescially when I checked it and it had an M-48 hull. I appreciate the clarification.
Thanks,
Joe

Hey guys,

20 Euros is indeed cheap. Full retail used to be $50. The kit basically has the Academy M60A1 hull and suspension, with Academy's M48A5 turret, and an extra sprue (or two, don't remember from when I built it) from AFV Club. Unfortunately they decided to redesign some of the Academy parts that were on sprues they only needed a few pieces of, and put all those together on the new sprues, along with the real new pieces. The "redone" pieces tend to be weaker than the original Academy ones, and there were at least half a dozen pieces they forgot to copy.... I've got a write-up on my build, drop me a line if interested.

Cheers,

Olaf
