Is it the early Tiger or the late? Only initial and early tigers made it to Africa....The color I gave you is more for the European theatre either Russia ,Italy or Normandy. For the African front we would be talking about another sand color RLM 8020 come to mind as desert brown or sand brown color ..I think testors has a good match for it ..There seems to be some proof that there might be a second color on them ..This is from documents found by Jentz and Doyle looks like a greyish green color ...This was done on the restoration of the Bovington tiger... Here are a couple of pictures ...Remember this is an early model from the 504 Schw.Pz.Abt. Not like the initials of the 501st. Hope this helps...

it's a tiger I Ausf. E/H1 from italeri, i think i will do normandy one...
i just saw the link u gave me, i think i will do it like that.. paint it in flat tan, and add black do the rest of the cammo... what do u think.
my kit is exactly like that one

If you build that kit staight out of the box ..You can only build a tiger from the 501 schw.Pz.Abt.which was used in North Africa. That means the big numbers not the 222 decals . This Tank has some very specific details only seen on these tanks ..ie the lights brought down on the front plate ...the squared off exhaust protection...and very few tigers had the small front fenders ...If I were you I'd paint it with XF 59 lightened a bit with white ..No camo color. Just have fun with it and try out some washes and drybrushing.
Rick
p.s. Normandy Tigers are either mid or later models ..All have zimmerit and three colored camos...Most had the later steel wheels.

its something the germans put on thier tanks to prevent magnetic mines from sticking on there tank. this was only used at the end of the war, around 1943 i think
you can buy an upgrade kit for the zimmerit from verlinden, i never tried it thought.
or you can simply use putty. they have the instructions on how to do so with my Tiger 1 late version from tamiya.
Happy modeling and good luck with your tiger, i had a great time building mine.

If you look at my sturm Tiger it has some on the hull ,but on the tigers it is all over the vertical sides and the turret. Go to this this and take a look at some of the models in the gallery you'll see different finishes that might interest you .

that should help with the zimmerit too.

i just finished painting the first layer, i used desert yellow with some white added, next week i'm gonna show some pic's, my first tank... it's gonna suck
for the drybrushing i will use that kolor but more lighter right ?
and what color should i use for washing ?
do both of those techniques require very diluted paint ?
wich one is for giving battlefield effects ?

For the wash I'd use dark brown diluted to around 80% thinner and 20% paint ..as for dry brushing use a lighter sand color and no you do not thin this paint ...just put a little bit on a flat brush and wipe off most with a cloth... When you see hardly any paint coming off you then lightly brush over the tank.... if you see paint streaking over the model you have still too much paint on your brush ..It should be very subtle and should only catch the high points of your model ...ie hinges ..corners and small details....Hey Have fun with it ...That is what it is all about... Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I work nights and have to sleep sometime ...hehehe

Some modellers do a general wash, while others will only do panel lines and reccess areas. It depends on what look you're trying for, and whatever pleases you.

I usually use the wash all over but add more to the seams and around hatches and the engine deck....
Go easy with it ...you can always go back and add more ...
Rick
p.s. Here is a site that I thought might be helpful to you ...

Depends on whether you are using the same type of paint for your base coat as for your washes....If you painted the base with Tamiya acrylics and you use an acrylic wash I would suggest you add a a gloss coat between them...let it dry for a couple of days before doing the washes .If you use enamels well let the paint dry a couple of days anyway but you may not need the gloss coat and flat coat ..Alway try it out on a place that you won't see first ..ie belly ! It is always good to use a gloss coat because you will have better results for the wwashes and the decals will go on better too ...When you finish all that you can seal it with a flat coat.

Gloss coats and flat coats are varnishes that are clear but protect the paint underneath from getting damaged from the weathering. A gloss coat is shiny and will let the washes run into the cracks better ..It is also a better surface for adding your decals...when you have finished you then add a flat coat the will make everything come back to a flat finish.

Yes you can buy them in the hobby shops ...Humbrol has a whole line up from gloss ..satin and flats ..So do most companies...Just do not use the Tamiya flat base as this is meant to add to a gloss paint to get a flat and not a flat coat like the others. I use the Polly S flat coat on my kits ... I use a product call Future for my gloss coat ...but I don,t know what the equivalent would be for you ...Any gloss coat will do ..Testors even have both in spray cans ...I used to use them all the time with good results.
