Tamiya's flat BASE is meant to be mixed with their paint, NOT to be used as a flat coat. Repaint your tools.
You are not the first one to do this, and you won't be the last.

Tamiya flat BASE is just what it says, its not a flat lacquer. You can mix it with future, this way you'll get a flat coat

But dont add too much flat base to future...
Try searching the forums, I saw one thread about mixing quantities. IIRC, 3 parts future to one part flat base will give you dead matt finish, 6-7 parts of future will give you matt and around 10 parts of future semigloss.

Tazz,
Maybe this mixture could help....
I use the mix as follows:
X-22 (10) : X-21 (1)...semi-gloss
X-22 (10) : X-21 (2)...satin finish
X-22 (10) : X-21 (3)...almost perfectly flat
Do not paint on a humid day, because no matter what mixture you use, it will not produce the effect you want.
Another suggestion is to use Krylon Matt Finish (in comes in spray cans - no more mixture). Just do not use too much coz again it will have the undesired white effect.

It is a Flat Coat.. you did need to cut it with Clear.. I usually do 3 parts Clear to 1 Part Flat..
