Decided to start my big Tiger 2 project. Going to do a Henschel trying out the Cavilier zimmerit. Only done one piece so far and the results are pretty good. Had to shave off all the hatch detail on the rear hull piece, but other than that , it went on real easy. That's using the form fitted pieces. When I do the Porsche turret version, I'm using the sheet to cut and shape my own pieces (it was on sale for $10 cheaper). After that there is all the brass PE (fenders and shields and screens)and metal barrel to contend with and individual track links. Should be a lot of fun, challenging and hopefully a great looking build when I finaly finish. Figure to show it to you in a month or two.

I've got all the reference books anyone could need for the Tiger 1, but only a few for the King Tiger. I would like to do a Henschel full zimerit from Normandy, but might opt out for doing the one with the knight and horse (kit decals). When I do the Porsche turret version, I'm definitely set for how I plan to do it. I've got an Osprey KT and the Squadron Signal Panzer colors set, some books on NOrmandy, so anything else I'm sure I could use

Hi Steve,
Just a quick post with a little info. There were only a few henschel turret Tiger II's which took part at Normandy, and even then they didn't get into action till early August '44. The first company of sSSPz Abt 101 was re-equipped with the Tiger II and saw action in the early days of August. All but one of these tanks were KO'ed. The third company of sPz Abt 503 was re-equipped also about the same time, of the 14 Tiger II's they received two had henschel turrets. They also saw action in early August. All of these Tigers would have had zimmerit. Good luck with your build. I have several Tiger II kits with all the AM goodies waiting on me in my stash that I'm going to get to someday!

I found an acceptable one to model. Just wanted to report on the Cavalier Zimmerit. It is WONDERFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have hand done zimmerit on 2 Tiger 1's using a stamp on one and one of those special scrapers on the other. Looks good, but is very time consuming. I have purchased a kit with Zimmerit as part of design (Dragon Jagdpanther). You don't find to many with that option. Have bought a Jaguar zimmerit replacement kit for the Panther G ( lucky I got it on supersale at $30). Still required some shaping. For price and ease, this is the way to go folks. I would bet this is far superior to the Eduard brass sheets as the thin resin is totally flexible and probably much easier to trim up and place and not worry about it being bent and setting right.
