After my T-55 I decided to dedicate my life to build Russian Tanks only So here is just another T-34. The kit is from Dragon and it was a real fun to build! I also used my first set PE but I only used a few parts because I ruined the rest

Enjoy the pics and please let me know what you think of it....

Looking good Jurjen!!

Are those tie-down belts on the turret PE or scratchbuild?
I can't hardly wait to see her painted!
Please keep us informed,

John.

Those are PE. I used an aber set and it is a very good set (at least, I think, it is my first one ) but unfortunately I screwed the most parts,.......grrrrrrr

well Jurgan the PE parts you've used really makes it stand out remember not all PE parts are useful anyway
did you texure the tank with Mr Gunze?. looking forward to seeing it painted will you be doing it with the white turret stripes that they used ofr the battle of Berlin?

BTW if this is your 1st effort at using PE then I'm packing it it great 1st attemt cant fault it at all looks like you've been doing it for years

Thanks Davy

Stupid question, what is Mr Gunze? A surface texturer?

After I applied Putty on the turret the fill the gaps I sanded it to much so the texture on the turret was gone. Then I applied a small amount of Revell Contacta to bring the rough surface back.

Some other questions...
Do I need to add some better weldings to the tank? Witch Tamiya colours are needed for the 'right' colour? I thought Dark Green but I'm not sure

Hey Jurjen,

Does it have to be Tamiya colour only??
I use for Russian armor always Model Master Russian Armor Green ( nr. 2129 ), and I find this a very good shade of green....

Just my two cents, John.

I prefer to use Tamiya acrylics for the simple reason that I'll have to buy some new paints But how is Model Master Paint? Is it just as good to work with as Tamiya Paints? At least, I never tried them before

Model Master Enamels are great. I use them a lot and the results are always fantastic.

If you like acrylics, Vallejo Model Air has a very good Russian Green also.

Nice first build Jurjen. Dont worry about some of the PE parts not working out. I dont think anybody has succesfully used a full Aber PE set?? You have all the important parts .. the grills and those belts from the turret look amazing. Should be really nice when painted.
If you have any milliput, fill the holes where the handles were inserted in the turret. These should look welded on. Milliput is good to use, as you can wash off excess with a brush and water.

As for painting Russian green. Dont get too hung up on the colour. Any mid to dark green will do. Take a look an different sites gallery and you will see a lot of variance, as was the case in real life. Some nice weathering will change whatever colour you use anyway. I used Tamiya dark green, faded with some dark yellow, and it looked great. I have also used Humbol greens (117?) and I was happy with the results. I have never used Model Master Russian Armor Green, but one thing is for sure, I wouldnt want all my russian armor having the same green! Good luck with the rest of the finish!

Thanks for the reply Frank, you're right about the holes. I need to fill them. I think I'm going to use Humbroll paint for the weldings. I see you thinking, paint??

Well yes, I saw that methode earlier this day so I will try that The technique is quite simple (I hope)

-first apply a thick cote of humbroll paint
-then you wait untill it is almost hardened
-then, make some weldings with your knife

I will give it a try tomorrow and I'll make some pics of the result.

@ Carlos: I will use the kit tracks, they look fine to me and I spend my money on the Aber set

See you tomorrow!!

I applied several layers of paint, what you see is just the base coat. The weldings look oke to me. Comments and critics are always welcome

Kind regards, jurjen

Really impressive looking build jurjen. The surface texture looks great, the welds fantastic, you used the PE to the extent that it needs to be used, and the first few layers of paint look good.

The only thing that looks "off" to my eye is the diameter of the wire you used for all the grab handles. I think a little small diameter would be more to scale. But this is just a minor nitpick, and I am supposed to include one with my posting.

Great job, keep sharing your progress with us!

Thanks for the replies guys

I made some in progress pictures. I wanted to make a dio for my T-34/85 with a winter scene. But I think I went wrong to add the bushes. It is now spring instead of winter.

Many things have to be done, I need to finish the tank and I have to do some more weathering and I have to add some tow cables and the headlight. Well, thats the tank......but something is missing in the dio. And I dont know what Can you give me some inspiration, tips etc? A tree or something like that would be nice, I think

Here are some pics

This is the base dio, I made the base from styrofoam and I added a layer of PVA/sand/static grass on the top

This will be the main setting of the dio

It was the first time I used mud on a tank

Another pic of the front view

When the PVA layer was still wet I added flocks and other green stuff

Here I added some, damm...how do you say that in english?:p lol

I wanted to make a winter scene, is it still realistic to make one? To add snow on the tank and the bushes?

Please let me know what I miss on this dio. Tips and comments are always very welcome!

Thanks,....
