I have been seeing alot of new release's of 1/72 scale armour what type of scale is it to 1/35 it looks like it's cheaper and it's growing in numbers of types of things to build .
Which scale would any of use choose if you had no other choice. I was thinking of doing a 1/72 scale something but not sure what I would get my self into.
Is it really small, like how big would a M1a1 Abrams be in inches?
Thank You

1/72 scale is pretty small.
i allmost picked up a 1/72 scale kit the other day,
i looked in the box.
the hull was about 4 inches long.
the road wheels where pretty tiny.
but one of these days i might get brave and build one

A 1/72 figure is about knee high to a 1/35 scale figure.
There are some nice kits coming out in that scale.
The pros: cheaper, takes up less room, faster build times, using a brush is easier to do in the smaller scale.
The cons: not as many kits, less detail (getting better though), figures are hard to find and alter, you need good eye sight.

The hull of my M1 Abrams kit is 4½" long and about 2" wide. The gun tube over the front stretches the tank out to a full 5" long and hull and turret are 1½" tall (not including antenna). Is it really small, like how big would a M1a1 Abrams be in inches?
I would suggest you buy the Revell M1A1 Abrams kit. It runs about $10. Not a lot of money for a pretty decent kit. It builds into the most common variant used during Desert Storm.
The Dragon Abrams kits (M1A1, M1A2 and M1A1 w/plow) were rather disappointing because they were based off of Dragon's motorized Abrams series. They run about $10 as well. They build into Desert Storm and OIF versions (the M1A2 does not build into either though).
Also the Italeri (ex-Esci) M1 Abrams is a decent kit, but is around 20 years old and represents the initial M1 Abrams before any production modifications. It is around $8.

Hi Tom, Here's another 1:72 thread started about 5 days ago that adds to the comments made here. Try a kit. I just bought the kit I wanted for $9.25. That price includes the S/H from Canada!

An easy rule of thumb is that 1/72 is about 1/2 the size of 1/35. So if you can visualize the vehicle of your choice in 1/35, you can get two of the same vehicle in 1/72 in about the same space. Revell of Germany make about the best Abrams, Bradleys, Leopards, Fuchs, etc. on the market usually around $10 USD.
