Hi all,
Here are a few more pics of the M4A1 and base. I don't want to show too much of the Sherman as I am writing an article about build this tank.
At this stage the tank isjust about ready to paint.

Cliff, The red is my attepmt to add some texture to the hull and also to have the armour look cast on. it is just your run of the mill auto filler.

Ciao andy007,
Wow!! Really nice build you have going. I am anxious to read the article on the build. Did you convert that M4 into an A1? Amazing!
Ciao for now

one question about you painting, i personaly paint parts of my model before making the hole thing, OK i do paint by hand not air brush so my question might seams stupide for air brusher but is it how you panit your models ? first build the model then paint it seams for me that this is not the way so tell me ( or us ) how you andrew do it, i know this is a stupide question so do not
peace

Ralph
That is some auto filler Stuff used to fill in small dents Andy is using that to give the hull some cast texture as well as to make the applique armor on the hull sides look as if it were part of the tank
That variant did not have on the welded type, but rather they were added at the factory as part of the hull casting

Rima,
its not a stupid question, I used to do the same when I hand painted but it is alot easy when using an air brush to paint it once it has been constructed.
Chad you explained it better than me lol

Hey Andy ...Pretty darn good so far ...If I were you I would change the .50 MG as the italeri ones are just not that great...also WWII ammo boxes don't open that way ...check your references . I would add a periscope in the protective housing in front of the commanders hatch because of the big gaping hole which is not very realistic... Good job at thinning down the skids on your running gear... Which running gear did you use? These tanks should not have the late upswept arm...You could add the attachement bolts for that little extra. Watch out for your wheels I think I can still see a seam on one ..might just be the picture. Did the kit turret have the re-enforced molded in armor on the left front side?
Keep up the great job ..keep the pictures coming.
Rick

Thanks for that Rick. I will replace the MG with an AFV club one. I didn't relise thatabout the ammo boxes and will change that too.
About the running gear. Its the kit ones. Call me stupid but what is meant by upswept arm?
No the turret dosen't have extra armour and I still need to do that I think I might just use putty for it.
TIA
Note: I am trying to make this tank as accurate as possible but access to certain materials and a budget are restricting this

The upswept arm is the back part of the bogie with the return wheel on it ...Later models were angled upwards so that the wheel would be at the same height as the skid...If you look at the kit bogies compared to those from Academy kits you'll see the difference...If you have their Achilles kit you could swap them ,because most Achilles had the upswept type and Academy gave it the staight ones . Your doing great and doesn't really matter if you don't get all the little nit nacks perfect ..you have done some excellent work getting to this point ..Keep it up .
Rick
p.s. I was just checking my references there are a few other things you should do ... Remove the oil filler cap and splash rail from the engine acess panel and the blower between the two hatches should not have the cover on it.

Well I'm just too computer stupid to send you a scan ...The rear deck is the same as a late small hatch with out the inboard filler caps near the air intake...the track adjustment tool and the sledge hammer are relocated just behind the engine access panels between the gouser box covers. There is no luggage rack on these earlies either. If someone else who has "The Modeler's Guide to the Sherman" Could help you out with a scan it could help you a bit. Sorry bout that ..Computer challenged here!

The deck shown in that picture is a bit earlier than the one you need ...Like I said you have to remove the filler caps beside the air intake and the tool need to be changed ..also the two lifting handles on the back piece of the engine deck should be turned 90 degrees.
