Finally got off my posterior and finished my 3rd.dio entitled "Drugs Do Kill". It's set somewhere in the Colombian jungles and involves a raid by the British SBS on a cocaine plant. Its sought of an extension of my 2nd. dio involving the DML SBS kayak team in a swamp somewhere in the Carribean.

I know its a bit of a stretch as the British SBS while actively involved in the war against drugs in the Carribean have never been known to operate in Colombia. My story is that with the info gathered in my second dio they manage to trace it back to this Colombian plant. With permission from the Colombian govt. and the courtesy of the American Special forces the SBS got to do the honors.

Below are some pics and I have additional ones in my gallery. The main prize is NOT SO MUCH THE COCAINE stash but the Mobile phone the drug lord's right hand man is having (the guy with the Cuban stoogie and Gucci's). A note of thanks to Phoenix-1 if your'e out there for the idea to "convert" regular soldiers to Drug runners. Both Drug runners are formerly from DML Special forces while the poor farmer and the dead driver are from the Mutt kit. Oh Yeah thanks too to Floogen for the 'cocaine' plants (hehheh).

A view of the fermentation tent from the back which I left opened because its supposedly extends beyond the diorama.

Mr. Gucci himself with a penchant for Cubans, Gold chains, Lugers and of course his SUPER valuable Mobile.

The good guys:

The dead driver died while taking a leak during his break from carrying stuff. Don't try this at home for Peeing in public can be hazardous to health.

Some additional photos in my gallery. All comments appreciated.

Great diormama, with not exactly the most popular subject, but it's still really good. Nice original background story behind what is going on! Great Job!!

Great dio! I love the DPM cammo, it looks like the real thing. How did you paint it, any chance of a step by step guide?

G'day Beachbum
thats an outstanding dio you have there, the foliage is excellent, and so is the whole lay out.
i like the way you have them all so close to the drug runners, really shows the covert and stealth aspect of it all. But one thing you HAVE to tell me, how did you make that bamboo?
cheers

Many many thanks for the kind words gentlemen. Silantra the little zinc hut isn't the outhouse although my wife did say it looked like one. Its suppose to be a small store and the rust is real rust. That' why the driver had to take a leak elsewhere.

Winchweight the DPM is based on the slightly older tropical British DPM where the beige streaks are more light sand color than mustard shades like the latest ones. I painted them as usual 40% light green, 25% dark reddish brown, 25% light sand, 10 % black in that order. Its the wash that blends them together and give the faded look. Used acrylics through out including the wash. Two very diluted washes of light green and one of flat earth.
Here's the website I based the pattern on:http://www.geocities.com/canuck_infantry/INDEX.html. Its been mentioned along with several good ones under Modern in the figures forum.

Jackhammer looking for suitable ground vege and planning where to put them was the toughest part of the groundwork for me. Grass was a combo of coconut hemp(coarser stuff with yellow painted tops) and paint brushes (slender ones). Small trees had tea-parsley and dried leaves. Ferns were a combo of 3 dried plants, 2 preserved weeds (glycerin:water). Creepers was another preserved weed. Dried Moss was used for short grass patches. Vines on the big trees were a root+actual vine (from Ficus plant) combo. Bamboo and bananas was scratchbuilt. Exposed roots are real dried roots. Ground debris various painted tea leaves. Sorry my poor photo taking doesn't show these details.

Placing them was tough as ground covers only proliferate where more sunlight penetrates in the jungle. Variety is another feature of such exposed areas. Too much and my SBS would be part of the groundcovers.

Thanks for the comments again.

That is one beautiful and original diorama. I love it, too. I especially like the way how you put the British SBS and the Columbian drug lords together. It seems so "natural."

By the way, what did you use for the foliage?

Congratulations.

Thanks everyone. Lestweforget the bamboo was scratchbuilt using Casuarina pine which is often planted near beaches here. I believe over at Australia you should be able to locate it. Coincidentally it sometimes known as Australian pine. I have a detailed but rather lengthy explanation here:
www.armorama.com/forums/20796&page=1

Angela the foliage is mainly natural if you count dried stuff as natural. The only synthetic I used was foil for one of the coconut palms. Mostly stuff I preserved with a glycerin:water mix which is actually quite easy especially if its ferns. Most of the stuff was from around the garden plus the occasional midnite raid of the neighbour's yard. Luckily they were mostly weeds otherwise I'd be "sacrificed" to the Garden gods by the wife.

G'day Beachbum,

What the hell is going on this week here at Armorama.

3 fantastic little vignettes to look at.

And this one is just as good.
One thing but,the dead bad guy, move his 16 away from the body. The good guys would have moved it away.

Again well done, and i love the ground work.

Cheers Jason

That has got to be one of the best vignettes I've seen in a while, this really has been a banner week for vignettes! Love the "ultimate penalty" for peeing in public... I never thought of using regulars for bad guys, and now it makes prefect sense.

Fantastic work there, beachbum. Your work on the drug runners was absolutely great and the poses of all the figures, including the SAS, were all done very natural. Congrats on an excellent dio.

Thanks a lot guys but a lot of the credit should go to you guys cos I've learnt valuable pointers from all of you on this forum.

Jasmils you would be right about the driver's 9 mm. M16 but except in this case he got his throat slit by the SBS who were actually hiding behind the storeroom. Sorry bad photos and poor angles.

Phoenix-1 like I said earlier, its thanks to you that got me converting 2 of the DML US Special forces into drug runners.

Including the 8 figures, 1 chicken and 1 piglet there's some 20 odd little points of interest (i.e. leaf debris on roof, tree stumps with roots, etc.) but my poor framing skills has only managed to capture some of them.
