Hi guys

Like the title says, this may be a stupid question but here it goes. I'm building a dio featuring a DUKW being unloaded by German POWs at a Allied supply Depot. I want to have crates in the background to give it more of the right look. All I have on hand are the crates from Tamiya's German tank suppy. Can I use these crates or were they so different from thier Allied counterparts that it would be noticed. If need be I can scratch some crates. I figured I would post it and get you guys thoughts on it .
Thanks

From what I've seen of the crates there are slight differences, but I don't know that anyone would notice if they were in bulk and not the main focus of the diorama.
If you're concerned - go for it and scratch build some.
And you could scratch build some larger boxes to throw in some variety

Maybe they over ran the Germans and got the POWs and thier equipment which includes the German crates. Just an idea.

Hi guys

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. I was checking some reference photos tonight and it looks like I'm going to have to do both, use the German boxes and scratch some.
Thanks again

In my gallery are some photos on making crates....
Still have more to post, I tried to number them in order, but that didn't turn out, but the photos are self explaining.

When I get out of my modelling slump, I'll be building, and posting some photos of making yourselves some cheap open crates.

Hi Guys

Scott, thanks for the link. I liked the article. I'm a big fan of Keith's work. I like the idea he had about putting a small block of clay in the crate. Not only would it make it easier to make but would help keep the crate square while it dryed.
Dave, I checked out the pics also a big help. Thanks guys The good news is when this one is done I'll finally be able to post some pictures! I can't wait.
