Just went to the PX today. They actually have models at this PX, among the choices in armor are an Italeri M60 Blazer, M163 Vulcan, 1/72 M1A1, and an Academy M1A1. The Blazer is priced right at $18.95, same as the Academy M1A1 (too high if you ask me). The M163 Vulcan was around $13.95 and I don't recall the small scale M1A1 price off hand.
What to get? BTW there was a 1/72 scale B2 Stealth bomber by Testors and several other large kits like a B-52something.

Well, turnabout is fair play. While activated from Oct-April past, I was TDY to Omaha with the Corps of Engineers. The nearest military establishment was Offutt AFB, and I made it to that BX once a week. They actually had armor kits, which must have been shipped by the case, because you'd find 20 M1A1 kits in two stacks, a Bradley or two,,,,oh yeah, and lots of thos "things with wings". It WAS an AFB, after all!

Rob--I would go with the M-60. I assume this is the blade tank. If so, it ranks right up there on my list of "Nice Idea, bad vehicle." The -65 tanks were always a headache. When we transitioned to the M-1s, those -65 tanks were totally rebuilt. An immense waste of time and money....ahh, I digress. Get the M-60.

I vote for the Italeri M60 Blazer too - can never have too many of them...

Yes, but I have the exact same kit in the Esci/AMT/Ertl box, unbuilt at home and I don't have the Vulcan...well if it's still there when I leave in December and I don't spend too much visiting the surrounding hobby shops, then maybe...

If you really want an M163 Vulcan, you'd do better by getting the Academy offering. On the other hand, Academy's Abrams is crap.

I have both. The result of an unfortunate memory lapse. I like the Academy kit better.

Rob you might want to wait on the Vulcan as I think AFV club is making a seperate one and the M-163 version towed and the M-163 one is what I should say

Sgtreef, you are correct. AFV Club is releasing a M163 Vulcan turret in 1/35th scale. The kit will have 6 turned aluminum barrels, and resin cast wiring, ammo chutes etc. They are also making a towed 20mm mount (don't know the designation).

I will wait for the AFV Club Vulcan.
BTW, the towed Vulcan is M167A1 and M167A2. The only difference between the two are the radar unit. The M167A1 uses the AN/VPS-2 and the M167A2 uses the AN/VPS-2A.

Just a note Sabot Afriend of mine said the Italieiri rox of the M60 blazer leaves out the plain barrel and only contains the wraped one. which was rare on non upgraded M60s.

I just checked the one in my stash and it has only the wraped barrel.

So, is this a good thing guys?

Sorry about 'lurking' this thread, but I couldn't make up my mind either, and I'm not a big fan of Italeri, sooooo I was curious about the input on this one.

No, not really. When Esci made the kit, it came with both the thermal shroud wrapped barrel and a plain barrel. Just another corner to cut on the reissue. BTW, this isn't an original Italeri kit, but a reissue of the best M-60 kit produced by Esci. I also believe that the kit does not include the normal M-60A1/A3 cupola used by the US. I think it only has the Israeli low-profile urdan cupola.

Just a noter on IDF magach 6s. 80s variants had mostly unshrouded guns . Shrouds came when upgraded to merk track, new sites and redesigned basket. Academy kit is a good start but not accurate all the way around. Barrel store makes a nice =L68 fo M60 series tank.
So no its not a good thing.
