I decided to get them oils at Dick Blick while they are on sale so could anybody tell me what the main colors that we use are.

These are the ones I hear all the time are they correct
Burnt Sienna
Raw Sienna
Burnt Umber
Raw Umber
Yellow Ochre
and are there any more, or are there some of these that are hardly used, see the ones that are used all the time I like to buy the big tubes, and the ones that are used very little I'll buy the little tubes.

Now they got Windsor & Newton on sale and you can get 200ml or 6.75 ounces for $5.38

Then they got the 37ml or 1.25 ounces for $ 2.18
Now that sounds almost as cheap as some of the off brands to me. So if anybody could tell me which ones I need, I'd appreciate it.

Kerry, Don't laugh, but I'd get a tube of WN flesh base.....
I use it to lighten certain colors, without getting a washed out look.
Also grab a paines grey, it's a great color to play around with.
WN on sale.... Hummmmmm guess the plastic (cards) will be used today... thanks for the heads up on the sale.

I got all the primary colors (Red, Blue and Yellow).

Aside from that, I found out that my style of modeling involves the use of these colors:

Raw Sienna
Burnt Sienna
Raw Umber
Burnt Umber
Golden Ocher
Titanium White
Ivory Black

With these colors, I can do anything. I use Grumbacher oils. Quite expensive but they are of very good quality.

Thank you Grumpy for letting me know about the flesh base, and the paines gray, and your welcome about the heads up on the sale on the WN.

Now Angela I went there and checked out the Grumbacher line, and they do say pre tested and they been in business for over 80 years, but mostly all they have is the 1.25 ounce for $3.38 which is somewhat higher then WN, they do have the titanium white in the 5 ounce for $ 7.88

Now they claim these to be on a 46% to 48% sale, but I have no idea what you have been paying for them, but like I said most of them were the 1.25 oz. and only a few were the 5oz. of colors we don't use. I still believe the WN will be a good buy, and better to fit my price range.

I don't know why, but they never had the golden Ochre listed, maybe it wasn't on sale, but thank you for letting me know about the titanium white.

Best Regards Kerry

Yes, Grumbacher is a bit expensive.

It's Yellow Ochere, not Golden Ocher. Sorry.

Angela, I heard of the golden ochre, but it was real hard to find, I guess it isn't a very popular color, cause the only size they had it in was the small tubes.

I got to looking, and they went down another .10 cents sense yesterday, and I also found out that they have 2 grades the artists grade, and the students grade, and what I seen the real good prices were the students grade, but with them being a premium company to begin with, that shouldn't mean to much.

Now if I get into figures more often, then these might seem inadequate, but I believe they will do fine for now, so thanks for all the help on choosing the right colors.

Best Regards Kerry
