My dad wants to give me two 1/24 kits he has started but doesn't want to finish. One is the Revell Unimog winter service vehicle and the other is a fire department Mercedes wagon.
I could swear that I have seen a Unimog in a motorpool somewhere with a backhoe digger attachment. Any ideas for the Mercedes wagon?
Thanks,
Paul

Yes, I have two Unimog based trucks in my motor pool. The US Army calls them the Small Equipment Excavator or SEE. The official nomenclature is the FLU-419. Freightliner modifies the Unimog (hence FLU=Freightliner Unimog) with a front scoop and a rear back hoe.
There is a second, newer version called the HIMEE that replaces the front scoop with a forklift.
The Unimog kit represented by the Revell kit is a 2.5 ton version and is comparable in size to an FMTV 2½ ton cargo truck. The SEE is a considerably smaller vehicle. It sits a lot higher than a HMMWV but is actually smaller in terms of wheel base.
The Unimogs look alike, but are different in size. Sort of like comparing a full size pickup to a compact pickup.
BTW, how are those kits? I've been yeing them, but want to wait until I find the plain Jane military variant. I would pick up the snow plow if they weren't do darn expensive.

Revell makes (made?) both the 1/24 and 1/35 Unimog. Here is a link to a kit: http://www.jphobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/357. It is kit #03020.
