Please allow me to also welcome you to the site MaxHalder! Please feel free to spend some time here. Believe me when I say that it will both enjoyable, and habit forming. :-)

As to your zimmerit query. I know the germans would often use captured parts to facilitate their own dwindeling or non-existent supplies (using captured Scammell tyres on their Famo's comes tom mind). But I can think of no example of the germans actively applying their plaster/concrete-like mixture on Allied vehicles. The only thing that remotely comes to mind is the late war attempt by the germans to pose as Allied troops by reconfiguring a few of their Panther's to look like our tank hunters. But in that case they would have removed the zimmerit if anything...

Welcome! I have the Encyclopedia of German tanks of WWII from Arms and Armour Press. It has pictures of just about everything the Germans made or captured and prototypes of planned vehicles. It has a whole section of "Beute Panzer" or captured vehicles. It seems the Germans either painted them in German colors and put oversized national markings on them or left them the original colors and marked them VERY well with the national cross. I don't see one example of zimmerit on captured vehicles. That doesn't mean it didn't happen. I think it would be really cool to see a captured T-34 or SU-122 in zimmerit, painted yellow, with some nice big crosses... Use your imagination...Hey...wait a minute..that gives me an idea.....THANKS MaxHalder...have a great time at this site. It is habit forming...ASK MY WIFE!!!!!!!!!!!

Viva Max,

I never saw photos of captured tanks with zimmerit aplied.

It's not probable that this had occured because zimmerit, as far as I read, it's only aplied at manufacturers factories and not in the field.

Seja bem vindo aqui ao ArmoramA.

Hi Tread, I think that Zimmerit was both factory applied or in some case field applied. That explains the all complicated waffle pattern, etc. I don't think field troop can do such a detailed wrok with the waffle pattern thing.

I don't think I ever seen a picture with Captured vehicle in Zimmerit, I will bet good money that Wehrmacht didn't apply zimmerit to captured vehicle for the following reason:

1. Cost issue, when you had limited resource, you tend to apply it to your own vehicle rather than the captured one that you intended to use it till it break down.
2. Infantry support, Zimmerit is applied to add some protection against infantry carried magnetic bombs, and because of the recognize issue, most of the captured vehicle was used in infantry role, so with Wehrmacht infantry close by, the Wehrmacht infantry should be able to fend off any enemy tried to attach a magnetic mine on the captured vehicle

However, I saw tons of pictures with shutzen commander's cupola added to captured vehicle though. My 2 cents.
