Welcome Johan, you may be interested in the article I just did entitled "The Much Maligned Italeri HMMWVs". You can access it from this link or the homepage. Also if you go to the armor reference photo gallery and navigate to modern US armor, you will see an album entitled Major Rob's Motorpool. I've taken many photos of a couple of different variants of HMMWVs.

I also have a bunch of HMMWV pics here: More HMMWVs. The ones I posted are mostly M998s, but I got some good interior shots. Someone here (Sgt Q??) posted some good interiors of the armored/TOW version on his own site, but I can't turn up the link right now. Does anyone have that link handy?

Yes. No. Maybe.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. Actually, on M998s (soft tops, 2- and 4-pax) you can find both green and sand interiors in service. It sort of depends on how and when it was painted. Quick field paint jobs sometimes didn't mess with the interior (as in Desert Shield/Storm). Generally, factory or depot paint jobs include the interior. If you check my interior pics, you can see that later mods and MWOs (Maintenance Work Orders...official changes to all vehicles of that type) are often not done in matching colors. It is not unusual to see sand vehicles with green canvas, or with only one piece of the canvas green.
On armored HMMWVs, most retain the green interior. I'm thinking that it is too much trouble to try to paint inside the shell, so it stays green.
Hope this helps.

From what I've seen during my time in the army, all HMMWV's are painted in two variations. OD on the interior and NATO 3 color on the exterior or OD interior and desert tan on the exterior. I have not seen one with a desert tan interior. But, I'm not even about to say that one does not exist. It all depends on the shop painting or repainting it. Whichever the case may be.

You can paint it either or. But if you are making a Desert Storm era vehicle, then the interior would be forest green, not OD green. Basically the interior is the same color green as the exterior green. Some newer vehicles have been issued in sand from the factory with interiors to match, even the seat cushions are made of tan canvas. Remember these HMMWVs will be newer and will have the 16½" radial tires as opposed to the 16" bias ply tires. The older ones will have a green interior.

If you check at the link I posted above you will see one of two sand-colored vehicles assigned to me. The 4-pax model (the "pink elephant") has a sand interior. There is some indication that this is a field-applied paint job (not sure where it was done), so that may be why. Most of the accessories (the radio rack, the plywood floor panel, and a few other minor items) are green, indicating they were installed after the vehicle was painted, so this could be a mfr/depot job dating from around the DS/DS time frame. The second sand vehicle assigned is a 2-pax that is green inside. You may be able to see it in the background of some of my shots.

Here's the one I did a couple of years ago minus a couple of parts that weren't attached when the photos were taken.
