here is my 75% complete IDF M109a2. This is the very first time I have EVER used an airbrush, used oil washes or weathered a model so heavily. I am a newbie at this but I hope you guys like my progress!

PS: I learned most everything from listening to you guys! Thanks for all your help!!

Looks like it is coming along great. One thing I noticed though, the handles on the ammo cans on the turret roof look brown, they should be black. They are made out of black plastic. Other than that, looks great so far.

HeavyArty, I havent seen plastic handles on ammo boxes, sounds like it would be too fragile to carry a few Kilos of 7.62s.
all ammo boxes I have seen so far had metal handles painted the same colour as the box and lead.

All ammunition cans that come out of DOD contract ammo manufacturers are all metal with metal handles. The handles are the same color as the can. I can provide photographs if any are needed.

This is consistent with all small arms ammo to include:
9mm, 7.62mm (.308 NATO), .5.56mm (M16 and M249), 12.7mm (.50 cal) and MK. 19 (40mm grenade) ammo.

You see some variance as you get into the larger caliber rounds/projectiles.

Thanks guys (and Mary too!)

I've done entirely all my former models with brush but I finally broke down and bought a good airbrush compressor and some airbrushes. I hung around this board and read posts/researched and learned how everything is done by listeing to all of you before I tried my hand at airbrushing.

Thanks again for the compliments!!

I have and have seen here at the NTC and other places over my last 11 years on active duty, 7.62 and .50 cal ammo cans with a very hard, black plastic/resin handles as well as metal handles. That is why I stated the correction.

This looks really good Tapper, it looks like a real veteran only thing i can see is dont Israeli M109's have large stowage baskets on the front cheeks of the turret??
Anyway once its finished crack open that Bacardi / Jim Beam and celebrate a fine build.
