HI all, new poster, after building aircraft models I decided to do armor again.

I just finished building an M-48A3 (Tamiya 1/35) with the M2 in the cupola. I've read people say DON't put it in there, but I am doing a certain companies tank, and the pics of the tank in the book Tank Sergeant, show the M2 in the cupola. Anyway.....

I am looking for a Tiger face decal for the bow of the tank, as I am recreating a tank from A company 1-69 Armor.

Any help would be great, I only have a decal set for 4 F-4 corsairs from the pacific to trade.

AJ,

does your decal sheet for the M48A3 not come with the tiger face? Mine has the teeth and eyes for it. Granted, you would have to paint the stripes, but I don't think they would work well as decals with a tank. (Complicated shape)
As I will not be using them your are welcome to them.
If you want I'll pop them in an envelope, just Pm me an address to post them to.

Cheers
Henk

Sometimes the cupola MG was removed and replaced with an M2 fitted to a mount on the roof of the cupola. Gave a better field of fire and allowed the commander to use it while head out among other reasons.

the 0.5s in M-48 and M-60 cupolas were not M2s but rather a smaller 0.5 cal, the M85, developed in order to replace the M2 where a smaller HMG would be needed.
the problem was that the weapon was prone to jams and feed problems and the crews prefered the old trusty M2 and the fact they didnt need to button up to fire which pretty much leaves them "blind" and "deaf" to what is going outside the tank.
the israeli armored corps removed the commander cupolas from M48s and replaced them with late Sherman M4 commander cupolas and later on after the Yom Kippur war all Pattons (M-48a4, M-60 and M-60a1) recived the Urdan cupola with scissor MG mount .

Also, I almost forgot. Anyone have decals or have made for tank names? I'm looking for white letters that say "Assassin" to place on the gun tube.

Not possible since the M85 was developed after the M48 was fielded. The M2 HB was the weapon that was mounted in the cupola of the M48 and not the M85.

You are correct about the feed and jamming problems associated with the development of the M85. This bears out with images of early M60 tanks fielded without the M85 that had the M2 HB mounted on the cupola as an interim solution until the M85 was deemed fit for issue and use.

regards,

Jeff is correct. The M85 was only used on the M60/A1/A2/A3 and LVTP-7. The M48 used the M2HB with M10 charging handle, the same variant as used on the Abrams tank.
