Hello,
Here are my progress pics on the LRDG Chevrolet. First of all I wish to thank Mr Roo for sending me replacement wheels for the bad ones in the kit.
I still have to do some washes an drubrush and everything is just put together for the pictures. It was also the second time I tried to paint a figure. I tried the Marijn Van Gils way. As always are any comments welcome.
Dirk
Here you can see the effect after applying the wash:
Here's a closer look of the figure. It is the standard Tamiya figure with a Hornet head

Great job !! I love the pink seats.... was that the standard color or 'artists licence'? Really nice job on the figure and the washes - subtle and effective. Where did you get the replacement wheels? Can you list some of the added on equipment you used? I especially like the fact that it's not all 'sand and OD green' but splashes of blue, bright green and the pink...did I say how much I love the pink....!

You have come a long way on this one Dirk. I really like that you have different colors in the piece. It has a very busy cargo box. I think that after you weather it you will have a winner on your hands. By the way the wheels are fantastic. They improve the looks of this kit by ten folds. Bravo and three cheers

Nice work Dirk. I do have a few comments to make
One/
the seats do not look pink to me but a darker red/brown to simulate leather which these seats were originally.
two/
Phantom Major is correct about the US style jerry cans. They would have been German or more of the square 5 gallon british petrol tins.
Three/
I like the way you have added the chain to hold the spare wheel. It does look good.
Four/
the outter ring of wheel nuts on the wheels were always painted red to alert the driver when replacing the wheel not to undo theses nuts especially if the tyre still had sair in it.
Cheers Cliff
PS> the figure looks better with the Hornet head as well

Dirk,
Looking very nice, I agree with Dave the wheels improve the kit greatly. I also like the assortment of gear in the back.

That's a great collection of guns, ammo and stowage in the back. I like how you used all dull military colors (except that pink seat) but arranged them to show plenty of contrast.

hi , a pity about the stowage , you have the american jerry cans and american ammo boxes , neither were used by the lRDG at any stage of the war . Remove them and relace with British standard wooden ammo boxes and more Germa jerry cans and you have winner , cheers ian

That is awesome. The collection of supplies and just the apparent randomness of their placement is very cool. I love your radio too. And your weapons and figures are top notch. Great job.

Thanks guys for the comments.
Bob,
I used several bits and pieces from accessory sets from Academy, Plus models and Verlinden.
And sorry, but the seat isnt pink, it's base coat was red leather and mixed with flat flesh for the drybrush
The wheels came from Mr Roo.
Dave,
Thanks and I agree, the wheels are great.
James and Ian,
I am a geek about historical knowledge and accuracy. So I threw in the cargo what I could find.
Cliff,
Do I have to paint the whole outer ring or just the wheel nuts red?

Nice job, I think the figure looks great.
I'm not an expert on the equiptment, but certainly have learned from Ian and Cliff and others what not to include when I do one. Thanks for the heads up guys.
Those wheels look great, and I got a set the other day in the mail from Mr. Wolf at Hometown Hobbies, so he may have more in stock.
Once again, an impressive build.

Just the wheel nuts themselves.
On this type of split combat ring it was always done as the outter ring of nuts allows the two halves of the rim to seperate while the inner ring is to remove the wheel from the hub.
I did these ones with a toothpick dipped in the red paint and then just touch each nut

Sorry - no insult intended with saying the seat was pink - maybe it's my computer's monitor. Great job, I'm looking forward to building this kit myself and I'll use yours as inspiration.

I'd like to find out how to get tires/wheels from Mr Roo too. Being a relative newbie to Armorama, I know he's the moderator of this forum but I'm afraid that's about all I know so far. Mr Roo....? Also, what paints, shadings, weathering do you use?
Thanks:
Bob

LOL are you sure you wanna know more about me :-) :-)
as well as the moderater I also host this site here on armorama as I am really stuck in a rut about trucks. Especially WW2 ones and mainly the odd ball Australian stuff
If you go to my gallery and have a look at the model albums you will know a bit more about my models. In the armor reference section of the Gallery is also Roo's truck archives which contain about 3500 plus pics of mainly trucks (hmm I wonder why)
On a more serious note I am arranging a possible new 'run' of these resin wheels and still have about 4 sets which were for my own use but if someone needs them more then me............
PS>PM me if you think you need them more then me. Each set is of 4 road wheels and one spare.
cheers Cliff
