thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate it.

I know this is going to be hard to believe but this model was my first ever use of PE and also of scratch building. It is the one that 'launched' my quest for the odd ball truck models and it was also only the 4th model I ever made.

So this I have to say is my favourite model and, while it has mistakes and ommissions in it I am still really proud of this one.

Thanks again
Cliff

Yes scratchbuilding can be intimidating at best but a most satisfying project upon completion,if you have the patience you can scratchbuild.I have done several pieces as has my son who scratched a complete Centurion from the tracks up in 1/35 scale and subsequently took me right out of the competition at one of our local shows and took the scratchbuilding trophy. He`s not a modeler by the way,he got himself grounded for a whole summer one year so I gave him something to do. Roo your first try at a scratch/conversion is excellent, you should be very proud of that one! I remember how proud Dave was when he completed his radio truck, another excellent build and Animal`s breakdown 6x is looking every bit as good. Well done guys and thanks for the overwhelming incentives to get building!

Its just so beautiful

I love the pictures. I was wondering if the MG mount was a field addon or factory installed? When did you make this model? What was so difficult about the PE grille? Just a few questions. Amazing!

Jeff, Eduards PE grill was a real &**^%$ to try and make. I tried on three different occasions with other models as well and gave it up as a bad joke. Hard to bend the bars to the same length etc etc. However I got an Aber GMC PE set and the grill was a breeze to do and this is the PE set I now recommend for the Tamiya GMC. I also believe Aber do a closed cab PE set as well.

The access hatch was factory fitted but the MG mounts were fitted in army workshops. I think the ratio was one MG mount per 8 trucks. Also there are different models of MG mount depending on what vehicle and cab type they were for. I used the original army Tech manuel on MG mounts to do this. I have this manuel scanned into my computer now and may put it in my gallery at some stage.

Cheers
Cliff

PS> don't forget that the scale plans I drew up of the deck and wrecker set are in the feature section of the site for you guys to download. Also there is a SWB 352 set of steel deck plans as well.

What crane are you looking for? The thread is about a wrecker truck. The drawings are for the wrecker truck conversion and show the wrecker boom. If you are more specific, someone can probably point you in the right direction.

Ruslan,

Dunno what crane your talking about but the post was about the #7 Wrecker set for the GMC CCKW 353 LWB Cargo Truck.
As for more pictures of the #7 Wrecker set, you will have to wait a while for the pics of Cliffs project. They have been taken offline for a while and hopefully will be back on in the next few months.
Cliff and/or Jim, any idea when these will be back along with the Roo's Truck Guide?

Regards
Matt

The fitting on the front of this truck is called a Derrick and is not a crane as such but a lifting jib using the front mounted winch as the lifting method.

cheers
