Does anyone know who can supply an aftermarket shackle? It is used to secure tow cables, mooring lines, ect to an USMC M1A1. I have kitbashed my spare parts box and have come up with only 2, which I used on my previous M1A1, now I need a few more. I know you can buy German WW2 armor version of these, but they just don't work in my application. If you know of a manufacture, that would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not sure about AM on those, but if you sent an email or a letter to the company that the original model came from requesting those pieces, they probable will send you some.

Model ship fittings.... I get them in white metal, and brass, and various sizes. Try Model Expo's ship fitting section. I get them at the local hobby shop.... But for the life of me, can't remember the maker..... (they go right into the little parts draw with out the package) you can also find various sizes of cargo hooks there also. Also a good cheap place to get any chains you need.... down to 42 links per inch, which is pretty fine chain.

Yes, it's a problem for us modern tread-heads. I am currently superdetailing an Army M1A1 in OIF and I decided to get the Trumpeter Marine Abrams for parts. It cost me $20 at the hobby shop and probably can be gotten for less elsewhere.
There are at least two shackles in this kit. I have been able to use the link-to-link tracks for other projects, I like the M240 better than the one that came in the Tamiya kit, the .50 cal hot dog site replaced the Tamiya one too, etc, etc. And it can be used as a pattern for the anti-slip coating.
Probably the best idea is to get some solder of the correct thickness and use the shackles you do have as a guide and make them yourself by shaping them around an appropriate sized paintbrush handle. Just add a bolthead to the sides and your all set. It's a pretty simple shape.
