Does a Panther G late have zimmerit? If so, what type? The kit I have is the Tamiya Panther G late (35176), if it does need zimmerit which set should I get.
If it does not require zimmerit, I won't add any and build this kit fairly OOB (using an Eduard barrel and the Tamiya grill set).

Rob, you're off the zimmerit hook , the late G's didn't have any applied.
Cheers,
Mike

Rob,
The lates (with chin mantlet, raised heater tower on rear deck and flamvernichter -fat tube- mufflers) did not have zimmerit.
There is a set of Tweeks for the Tamiya and DML kits archived over on Missing links. It's mostly simple stuff, not massive scratchbuilding, but good simple detail improvements.

Rob,
There is a list with Zimmerit patterns on this site http://www.panzerworld.net which lists the various patterns and the vehicles they were used on. They link the Panter G with several patterns, and claim that all have been verified with photographs. You would be O.K. without, as the majority was delivered without it, but you would not be wrong to add it.
Cheers
Henk

Henk,
I am not certain, but IIRC the late Panther G was introduced after the application of Zimmerit was discontinued, as Mike said.

Ken, you're welcome, I think it's a good site for zimmerit patterns.
Hallo Harm,
The problem with German Armor is always the question of dates and refits. I lost my link to a site with a comprehensive tabel of all German AFV's and ,per month, the addition or ommision of verious updates.
German practise was to upgrade any AFV brought back for repair/refit to the current standard. It would therefore be quite feasable to have a Panther with zimmerit which has been upgraded to 'Late' standard. But then I am talking 'educated speculatif ' as my indept knowledge of Panthers leaves still much to improve.
Cheers

Sabot -
This is how I'm approaching my Tamiya Panther G also;
Looking for mine to be from 1 SS for "Ardennes Campaign" around Honsfeld area, 17 Dec. Pictures I have from Osprey's "Ardennes 1944" show Panthers without zimmerit, three color schemes, and good deal of foliage. Good luck and keep us posted
