Looks real good Andy. A couple of points though.... I don't know if the pictures just aren't bright enough or I can't see it, but there should be more mud and dirt on the feet/legs of the figures. Also, when people are out in the cold, noses and cheeks turn a lovely shade of pink!! Very few winter dios show this, but growing up in Colorado, I promise it happens. Other than that, great job!

Thanks David and Cliff for you Comments
Jesse I like the idea of adding a bit of pink.
And I will add some mud to the boots.

Nice job Andy.....
As a fair skinned old man I can honestly say.....
I turn very pink.... the nose, the cheeks, the ears...
now these dudes were out in the cold everyday,
so I would imagine they were extrememly cold, and miserible.

I like the ground work, the mud is very convincing, the road is well done. I like way the back corner lifts up and gives some elevation.
Good detail on the gun straps and ponchos.

I can't take credit for this but in another cold dio someone said to use a small piece of cottonball on the mouth to simulate cold breath

Also, when people are out in the cold, noses and cheeks turn a lovely shade of pink!!
Adding in pink or red to a face this small sometimes gives the wrong impression. Although I also agree with oldbean, faces do initially glow, but after a long trek or being out in the cold for a long time, bright red shows life and will be hard to get the right effect.
IMO, better colours to show this would be wine or a pink/purple. At this scale you need to add colours very controlled. Mix base colour and purple and paint the bottom lip only. This gives a good cold effect!

Andy -
Outstanding! You've really captured the moment in time and feel for the situation well. After many "very" cold experiences (North Dakota, Thule/Greenland, Alaska, Colorado...yeah "garden spots") while in Air Force, I know what exposed flesh in the cold is like. With this in mind, you might consider that the figures faces, as much as possible, would be covered. The scarfs would likely be over the noses, faces also. Nits I know, but another "touch" to an truly well done diorama. Simple, highly effective. Great job.

Great job Andy! I really like the scatch built sheets and scarfs. Maybe just a little more mud on the boots. Just a personal preferance. Keep up the great work

Thanks guys
Blade, I was gonna do that but I thought I wanted to show some face.
Dan, I have added more mud to the boots and I still will do the pink bits around the face and will post pics later on.

Nice work on your Vignette, Andy. Figures look good, groundwork looks good, and the overall appearence of the scene is excellent.
You have captured the feeling of a small patrol of US Infantry in cold and snowy conditions, in a potentially hostile environment. Very good job !
Reminds me of patrolling the woods of Asegarten, Norway in February 1998
Cheers !!
