This is a touchy subject for some, and have been a witness to, and taken part in some "heated" disscussions on this topic. My personal beliefs are these subjects should be left for the individual to judge. I am an artist by trade, and have produced such subjects, but I do try to introduce it in a way as not to offend the majority of viewers. Reality is extremely important to me. I grew up with many WWII vet's I have heard many horror stories, I respect these men and civilians and what they did, and how they survived. I would'nt want to be vulgar in any depiction, but if telling the truth to a story, some blood may be nesscesary, the level to which it is used and how it is done will always be an individual based judgement placed by the creator, and viewer. A work which is contrivetrial is just that and will always be. If you create something like this then it is your responsibility to accept the good critism, as well as the bad, as long as you can respect everyone's point of view then I say do it, but if you can't be accepting of the negative, then you have no business doing it. I would tell it like it was, personally, but that may not be suitable for all, but I can accept that. It is the people that stick their head in the sand and can not accept the facts of what happend that scare me. History will repeat itself if we do not learn from it. Your target audience, that is what you must keep in mind. I would encourage all who consider these topics, to think it through carefully. Examine your reasons for doing it, be creative with your subject. If you can justify it with logic, intelligence, and sensitivity you will be more succesful in touching your audience

As sombody who in his time has built a diorama surrounding a very touchy subject, i believe in the less is more approach to them.

Believe me that it is not easy to be able to put across the feeling you wish to portary with such subjects whilst still keeping with in the boundarys of good taste.

I can only speak from my own experience on such matters that by doing the correct research, and looking at the idea from many different angles it is a very fine line to walk along to achieve the goal you set out to do.

Feel free to take a look and comment, i will not post any pictures up only the link.

Keith, your diorama, is always the one which comes to mind when this particular 'can of worms' comes up on the site. For me it is an object lesson on how to handle a very delicate subject.Thanks....

Ziggy, as this thread was (correctly) identified by Scott (Slodder) as a tricky one, can you please keep in the well-mannered and considered line which has been established. Comments such as 'some sicko' is not exactly conducive to a harmonious environment....Jim

We can debate the merits and detractions of bloody dios forever. Going back to RIMA's concern about his dio...

Once again I don't think RIMA intended to be a "sicko" and slosh blood everywhere. It is only his second dio, and it's a really big and detailed one too. Plus the fact that he had the foresight to cover up the decapitated horse leads me to believe he was conscious of over doing it. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that is was his inexperience that he used a little too much blood. I don't think anyone who has posted in this thread believes RIMA was just out for shocking distasteful gratuitous blood. I am confident there is no debate over that point.

As for the soldier doing the bowel movement... I personally think it's a great detail among the several different storylines embedded in the dio. I see German soldiers talking, civilians suffering the loss of a friend and horse, prisoners, German troops settng up camo for their tank, a destroyed US Sherman, and the imfamous German relieving himself. To me they are all very plausible scenes within the overall scene. That being said, if RIMA starts putting a soldier going to the bathroom in all his dios then I would get worried!!!! Well, the kit did come with two soldiers with "Things to Do!" so perhaps one more dio, but that's it.

RIMA no more going to the bathroom soldiers for you!!!

Quoted Text

RIMA is not a doctor or a combat experenced soldier

I don't think anyone here has been condescending. I was simply attempting to impart a little knowledge that may be useful to someone. If I offended anyone, I apologize.
