I have the "HIDE USER" function working but I still need to add a "Clean Hidden Users" function to restore your settings to default (no users selected). So don't run around testing it on people or you may not see them for a while.

Obviously it goes without saying that you should use this feature wisely or not at all. Personally there is no one I am going to run out and add.

Also it should go without saying that staff members who actively moderate forums should not be adding anyone as then they don't see those posts.

Thanks,
Jim

Restraint of pen and tongue still works for me....... :-) :-) :-) :-)
and can honestly say, that there are NO members that I could personally think of using it on...... :-) :-) :-) :-)

Jim

I will admit I am not the brightest bulb in the socket, but is this function, (once activated), simply to eliminate "seeing" a particular member's thread posts? If so, has there been a demand for this type of function as I'm assuming it took some development time on your part to put in place? Just curious.

Why'd you have to go and do this for Jim? Now I have one less thing to complain about.

You are right, as an armor forum moderator, I do have to keep both eyes open to moderate when necessary. But the armor forum has oodles (more than most) of moderators.

It's the sci-fi and buy/sell/trade forum where there's basically me that I keep the eyes on full time.

Steve,
I think this basically comes down to a few situations where because of personalities or whatever it is better for everyone that they have the ability to not see that persons posts. I have never had that problem here but it is yet another reason not to be a troll on this site. Thankfully we have been troll-less (IMHO) for quite a while. But my standards for someone being a troll might be higher than others.

Rob,
I was actually thinking after I posted that, that it would be easy to get around the moderator thing. I will just use the existing check to see if user is mod and then do a different query which shows all posts. So for forums where you are a moderator you will see ALL posts but where you are not users can be hidden.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, If I were to use this function to ward off the bothersome rantings of a certain oaf (Not that I have anyone specific in mind... )' Would I then miss any THREADS to which said oaf had posted? Or simply the Oaf's replies in that thread? Would I be able to tell that the aforementioned oaf had replied, or would he, not being in my sight, snuffeth?

Kev - you would NOT make my list - but I do find the new function intriguing...

May Santa be so kind to you all too!

What ever happened to self control? If members have a problem with another (over his or her) posts.... then just don't read them. Is it really that hard to do that?

I thought people could voice an opinion... even if that opinion differs from others.

Imho... this feature makes no sense at all.

i agree, is there any real need for this function?

i would have thought ignoring some one was pretty easy already, without the site doing it for you

regards

It's actually a pretty common function for newer message boards and obviously started from use on chat systems.

Personally I don't find the feature offensive in the least. If someone wants to put my comments in the ignore bin then so-be-it. Their loss as far as I am concerned.

And as Robert has already hinted (or gleaned) this feature is not going to remove "quoted" remarks from that user so the topics started and quoted replies will still be shown on various pages. Just the actual post by that person will not be visable.

Personally I think it is a good idea. As the site gets bigger and there is going to be more need for moderators - it's a nice 'self -moderate' function, Logan's Dad hit the nail on the head...Jim

Logan's Dad hit the nail on the head

That's because he worked as a carpenter for a few years after his honorable discharge from the Navy. He held a few odd jobs here and there, never really amounting to anything. Then one day his wife said HEY!, time to quit this migrant lifestyle of ours....lets move and startover. So they did, had a child, named him...er...larry?...lanney?...lennie?...well thats not important. The thing is, he knows how to properly hold a hammer and has never hit his thumb. (:-)

and for the record, in case you did'nt know it, I'm not for this new fea"click"

Hey Jim,

Why not make it so that everyone is hidden by default so that the user can then un-hide those people that they wish to talk to? This would be a great savings in bandwith and the user would save a lot of time too when visiting Armorama.

Paul.
