simple question really.
As i have never made a Dio or Vignette before, could someone please tell me how to get a really good water effect. I'm planning on putting my 1/35 scale Willy's Jeep all mangled up and blown to bits half coated in rust on a river bank (Half in the river half on the bank). I will also have a 1/35 scale German Halftrack passing by in the road next to the river.

Merry Christmas

(P.s. I want this Dio to look like a France scene so if someone has pics or info on French countryside, rivers, and small towns, could you please show me, all will be greatly appreciated) (:-) (:-)

Ollie,

I would suggest that you search the forums a little bit. Topic of making water has come up so many times that I have lost count.

Here are a couple of threads that should get you going:

Hi, here is a pic of water I have made using two part clear casting resin and gunze transparent paints. give me a pm if you are interested in how it was made or stay tuned for an article in the near future. It was very easy to do. Cheers Kevin

Hi the grass on the bank is Heki wildgrass. The resin is self leveling if you need it to be more wavy you can try Water Effects by WS Cheers Kevin

Get a really good magnifier and combine two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen many, many times over. Just kidding.

I know this is not the type of 'water' you need for your dio project, but I'll throw it out there because it is a mixed medium project..
Main base of the water is joint compound smoothed while wet then painted with acrylics then gloss medium.
Surf effects were a combination of clear acetate, painted then scraped with a finger nail, some matted cotton coated with gloss medium.
Bubbles and foam were a combination of agitated gloss medium.. and a failed(?) experiment mixing acrylic paint and liquid soap.
This vignette was for a campaign theme (AAAO) so I was focused more on evoking a feel, than capturing realism, obviously you can see the differences in results compared to the clarity of the 2parts and envirotex.
The joint compound technique is not going to be the first choice for most water effects, but some of the foam and surf effects ill probably try again. More alternate view in my photos under AAAO.. seeya

Wow - hats off to you Kancali. That is a great water job. I agree, it's not going to nail a realism award, but it is a really nice overall combo of mediums. I love dish detergent affect.
Did you scratch the DUWK?

Thanks Slodder!
Yeah the dukw is a scratchbuild i started,, then Italeri came out with thier 1/35th so i lost interest in finishing it up.. needless to say its been sitting around for awhile. I knew my skill level on scratching a figure was going to kind of put a ding in alot of realism, so i figured a not so perfect dukw and this technique for water would all blend together for the overall piece. Not gonna win technical awards,, but kind of interesting to look at..
The last time i tried 2 part i had some left over in the creek bed,, and the majority of it on my shoe! so i've stayed away from it since then, but i like some of the hilite things i did on this project, so i might try something in the future with 2 part and hilites..
PS.. the detergent and paint looks great when you froth it up.. then it slowly bubbles away (rats), but it leaves a bubbled pattern on the water, albeit quite flat. seeya
