Sorry about the site being down. Too many connections lately seem to be overloading something on the server. It may be the new "tracking every user on every page" thing is not quite a bonus when you have 150+ users doing it.
I was in bed most of today sick so I would have noted this earlier if not.
Thanks,
Jim

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I can carefully step down from the ledge now.
Jim, I'm sure you are most aware of it, but I just have to tell you what a treasure I realize this site is, when it isn't available.
I was like a teenage girl who had been stood up for prom, looking out the window every 5 minutes to see if my "date" would arrive.
Sorry for the twisted imagery.
Hope you feel better soon Jim.

Paul,
Thanks for the suggestion. I think before overhauling all the code in the site I will try re-installing a PHP accelerator engine that we use to have before the hard-drive failure. A little caching will probably do the trick. And I have some other ideas to cut down on excessive queries...for one I wrote a lot of early code not using JOINS. So I know there is lot of savings there if I can spend the time to fix it.
Cheers,
Jim

Thanks for the well wishes all. And it is always nice to know how much the site is missed when it does go down (hopefully a lot less soon). We did so good for so long without outages.
Cheers,
Jim

Jim - First off - hope you get better soon, take care of yourself.
Second of all, my professional opinion is to stay away from PostgreSQL. I used it in a producion environment and was very dissatisfied. I have since used MySQL and I have found it a more robust easy to use and easy to get support (in many forms) product.

Really? In my professional opinion too: Postgres is far superior for high-end use. We've deployed it on many BSD servers and have never had a problem. We also have deployed Sybase and Interbase servers which are also good and now opensource (Sybase released older vesions for free).
Paul.

Paul - no problem no offense directed at you, the PostgreSQL vs MySQL debate it's similar to the Windows vs. Mac debate, there are some on each side.
In my experience PostgreSQL was "not for me". I have ported that app to Sybase and life is good.
I realize there is a place for PostgreSQL I personally would start a new app with it vs. convert an existing app to it.

I guess if we have an outage, it is ok since it was due to too many users. There are worse reasons to be without. Nowhere to go but up.

Sorry to hear you're sick Jim.....
I entertained myself, (although I did suffer from withdrawals), by visiting the chat room..... first time I was there..... and by talking to a few members on MSN and Yahoo......
By the way, I've been down a few days too.... sprained ankle....but back to work tomorrow night..... with an ace bandage on...... Hope everyone has a wonderful New Years.....

Agreed Dave, involuntary withdrawal is a really BAD thing!
Jim, thanks for the magic job your doing with Armorama and get well soon. OK, sorry that was not supposed to sound like an order. :-) Jim best wishes for a speedy recovery.
