Hi again...
after the good news that our leader has announced, i feel a lot more relax to finish this campaign and last night i managed to get a few shots .

this is the continuity of my previous progress which can be found here : https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/41441&page=1

Here are some photos of my work so far..

to create hard edge patern, i mask with blue tac and masking tape: the whole masking bussiness took more than 2 hours...

King Tiger after the final color . :
the king tiger will recieve weathering process later

the Tamiya 204 decal was translucent

more photos in my gallery. Comments are welcome and thanks for viewing

Looks nice, great masking idea!

To me (IMHO) the red is too pink, the spare tracks should not be silver, and you need more dots.

But give her a good weathering and all but the dot issue could go away!

Sticky,

my wife said the same about the pinkish red.... i guess it' resulted from bad paint or old paint..anyway i decided to modify the color a bit...

the spare tracks were not painted yet... that's tamiya putty .that i put on them to replicate rusty texture...

thanks for the comments

I agree the red is too pink. Is it supposed to be red or red brown?

Silantra that looks outstanding!
I dont know much about German armor, but I know a nice paint job when I see one, and that is awesome indeed! Keep the photo's coming.

Hi

Looks great! Can you give me some more info about the masking technique you used....I don't know what "blue tac" is for instance.

I have the same problem with my King Tiger...hard edge camouflage hard to do with an airbrush! My King is painted in it's hull red base color now, waiting for the dark yellow and olive green patches....

nice paintjob on your king tiger silantra,

and I have the same question as martin what is "blue tac"

and where can I buy it.

thanks in advance

Silantra -

Outstanding looking King Tiger! Very clean and well done build. The efforts put into doing the masking really paid off. I'm thinking of trying a similar approach on my King Tiger rather than the cut out "stencils" approach I've used before. Thanks!
If you're representing King Tiger "204" from schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 501 (one of 6 Tigers to reach La Gleize area) assigned to Peiper's 1 SS, one of my references (Osprey's "Ardennes 1944; Peiper and Skorzeny") shows the "204" as black with the white outline, but also shows the famous "222" King Tiger with blue numbers outlined white (though hard to tell from black & white photos!?). The Tamiya "Ardennes Front" King Tiger kit (that I have also) has the red outlined in white numbers provided for "204". Does anyone have a better reference for this? Thanks in advance,

thanks once again for the kind words ....

Martin and Rob,

the masking is done with Blue Tac ... blue tac is a stationary product used for sticking something i.e. poster to the wall they can be reused again and again...but in the case of masking, the blue tac were covered with paint so I decided to throw them all....I dont know how to elaborate more...but I think they're many manafacturer round the globe that make them... for example fabercastle do make them in green ... it's not some sort of liquid masking i.e. Maskol or MrMask...
some picture of product I managed to google:

from UHU:

I hope someone else could explain better about the blue tac or similar product...

method:

peel it and then roll it ...form a long roll with a diameter approx 4-6mm and then place it carefully onto the kit... slowly press the blue tac roll so that it covers every nook and crannies ... (look for the 1st photo) then I cover with masking tape as in photo no 2...

some blue tac product leave and oil residue onto the surface of the kit as happen to me... after thinking for a while, I coat the whole kit with humbrol satin coat.... this eliminated the oil residue... so in order to eliminate the oily residue, I would suggest to cover the kit with gloss or satin coat...flat coat will leave oil traces...

Blade,
thanks for the info... I never knew the 204 king tiger number have black with white outline...my first intention was to build the famous 222 King tiger as seen in the concord 's battle of the bulge book... since they;re not aftermarket decal and to cut cost, I simply used the decal supplied in the kit .. but I think in the said book, the 204 tigers are shown with red colour number...

hmm... I guess I will get back and recheck again... thanks mate!!

to stick posters and so on to the wall. I believe you can buy it in the bookshop (boekhandel) at least in my place I can buy it there. But I don't know if they call it buddies.

Yes you can buy it in bookstores, but also some supermarkets etc......every shop who sells office products (bureau/kantoorhandel)

The pic shows this "fake chewing gum" from pritt, and they have called it poster buddie....I've used it already when I was young (well I still am but anyway). I used to have my walls filled with posters of aircraft, tanks etc. You almost couldn't see my wall haha :-)

I'll buy some this afternoon.... let's see if it works!

I still have some but I think there is all kind of hair and dust between it so I also have to buy some new one.

Silantra,
Great job! I just followed your link to the orange road crew and I busted out laughing. You’re obviously a very talented painter with one critical flaw. You’re COLORBLIND! From now on let your wife pick the colors. Trust me, it works for me. Seriously though, thanks for taking the time to post the pictures. It helps to get a visual of how it’s done. I decided to get a Pershing cause I was afraid of the paint job on the KT –This will be my first tank. Now you have me wishing I ordered the KT also. Keep up the good work.
