Tamiya Churchill with Legend NA75 conversion. The markings were home-made. 'C' Squadron, North Irish Horse, 25th Army Tank Brigade, Italy 1944-45.
I chose 'CORK' as the subject as my wife's grandmother was born there!
Sorry about the quality of the pics, but there is so little light that I had to use flash with a fill-in spotlamp!

This is one of those points you just don't notice until someone else points it out! Perhaps it's just been cleaned!(also just noticed the nearside headlight is crooked!)

Thanks for the kind comments guys. The conversion kit was very comprehensive, and fitted with no problems -even the track supports behind the sprocket are included, each being 6 pieces of brass. This attention to detail by Legend has contributed greatly towards the overall effect.

No problems whatsoever with the Legends set. I didn't use their tracks, as the kit tracks were the correct pattern for this tank. Otherwise the only concern was my cutting on the Tamiya parts! The detail is pretty fine, and there is almost no cleaning up after removing small parts from the mould plugs.

Hi Dave ..I really like your Churchill ...I was thinking of back dating mine to a mark IV (KK Casting turret)but I was stumped with the changes in the rear end and exhaust system ..Does this kit have anything to back date that part of the kit?

Dave,
Loved your tank. And I hate it when someone slips from the mud on their boots and lands on a horn, headlight or something and bends it. At least I got to laugh at them when they did it. Maybe the crew just finished cleaning the bore.

Your tracks are they Tamiya's vinyl from the base kit or Fruilmodel? How did you paint them? I have a Crocodile and am thinking about building some engineering version AVRE, flail or bridging.

Bear - No, the Legend kit doesn't cover changes to these areas.

Jim, these are the kit tracks, painted with a mix of Orange/red acrylic and metal drybrush, with the raw unmber wash that I used on the rest of the tank to add depth. The Legend kit includes very nice resin 'plate' type tracks, but they weren't applicable to this vehicle.

This is very nice, Dave

What paint (and color) did you use for the overall hull color?

As there were several different colours of resin & plastic to cover I primed the model in grey auto-primer first, then a rattle-can of Tamiya OD just to make sure that every little nook & cranny got some colour on it. After 24hrs drying I brush painted the whole thing with Citadel Catachan Green. This is a wargames paint from the Games Workshop range, but I find it quite suitable for the colour used by the Brits in Tunisia/Italy.
The usual weathering was applied over this with washes and Tamiya dark earth.

Thanks for the compliments.

Not being a Churchill expert, what was the original kit type and what did you convert it into with the Legend set?

The original kit is Tmiya's MkVII (with late 75 mm gun), and the conversion is to the NA75. Basically this was a MkIV with cast turret and 6pdr gun, and then the 1St Army workshops in Bone, North Africa used the 75mm and mantlet from wrecked Shermans to upgun the tanks - these then became the first British tank to carry a 75mm gun (the only previous ones being US built Grants & Shermans).

Hello Dave,

Being new to the forum, I have beiong checking backwards on British Armour and came across your excellent model of "Cork." I have some information about her which may be of interest., however, not knowing if adding a post moves the topic to the top, I thought I would check first..

Cheers, Gerry

It's a wonderful sight! Very nice work Dave, it looks amazing! What was it like to work with Legends resin? I ask you this because I am thinking of buying one conversion myself but still a bit afraid to move into it as it is resin... I would apreciate a lot your help... Thanks in advance. But speaking more about your model, I would just point out the barrel think- to which you have already answered- otherwise it is a perfect model. I love the markings (are they decalcs?) and the painting job.
Cheers and happy modelling!

Thanks again guys.
The Legend parts are a real treat to work with once they're removed from the carrier. The hardest part is plucking up the courage to take a hacksaw to the Tamiya kit!

The Churchill quite often had the front trackguards removed to stop mud etc building up, they also got dented quite often as this is a large vehicle to manouvre.

The markings are decal, but a mix of Accurate Armour and homemade.
