I picked up a Tamiya KV-1c cheap for the upcoming Red armor campaign. CHeap in case i flub big time! I'm thinking I should've tracked down a "B" with the add on armor...anyHOW...

I can't find pics or reference of when the 'C' served. Is Finland and those wars too early, while Kursk is too late?

most reference I find reference the B or initial model.

any help for the newbie appreciated!

Can you get hold of Military Modelling Magazine starting from last august? They were running a hell of a useful series on the KV series. I'll take a look and see if I can find some good book references for you as well.. By the way, welcome to the site!...Jim

Tamiya's 'KV-1C' is a 1941 production model, based on an example sent to America in 1942 and now preserved at Aberdeen Proving Ground. The 1C designation is one invented by the Germans, and never used by the Russians, who weren't really bothered by such things.

There is a fair amount of stuff on the net, like this

and this is the Aberdeen tank

If you're looking for a cheap book the Osprey New Vanguard is worth getting

as is the series in UK Military Modelling mentioned by Jim.

As for where it can be used, the 1940 Winter War with Finland is too early and Kursk a bit too late. Anytime in late 1941 or 1942 is best, the Finns fought against KVs after the winter war as this captured 1942 model shows.

The Tamiya KV-1 is old, but basically sound, there is PE to dress it up too.

I appreciate the links.

I ordered that text, and now maybe I'll find out the difference in the 'c' model (by the German way of thinking) and the initial. I know the "E" varient had the extra bolted on armor, which looks uber-cool, but hey...see what cheap got me?

thanks for all the help
