Hi, It seems that every week or so that we hear of some new and exciting kit soon to be released from one of the major model makers, so with this in mind I thought I would add my two cents worth here for this week. For those of us who operate on the 'dark side' of this hobby-ha,ha-here is the latest.
I was at the local hobby shop today and a customer said that he had heard that AFV Club is supposed to be working on releasing a German 15cm heavy artillery model in 1/35 scale here before too long to go along with their ever expanding line of German artillery and Pak guns.
Hope this 'latest' in the rumor mill has some truth to it.
Take care, Sgirty

I have heard that the 88 was coming out in several versions. You might want to check the PMMS site under AFV

(In response to the M-40) Yea really, they already have the guns and suspension done, does it take four years to make a hull?

The M40 has been (IMHO) by the need for AFV Club to make a lot of 'seed' money from its continuing German range. Perhaps it is a little ill-advised to go into direct competition with DML, however only time will tell..
The 15cm? Nice idea, but nothing has appeared on their lists. It would be surprising, as having their fingers 'burnt' with the 'War' with DML, any new product development will be under the closest security..
What's wrong with the Tamiya 88? What's wrong with another company producing a kit of the quality the consumer demands in the 21st century? Particularly a subject that will sell in HUGE numbers...Jim

I don't think there is anything specifically wrong with tha Tamiya 88 other than it's at least 20 years old.

How come Dragon haven't done one? They have 3 versions of Hummel, they only need to mould a carriage & a pair of wheels, how hard can that be?

Make that closer to 30 years, I remember making this X2 in the '70s. I did a 3rd one a couple of years ago, & the die is obviously getting clapped, lots of flash & parting lines & a couple of parts hadn't filled properly, had to rob the old ones. A great pity, as when it 1st came out was a ground breaking kit.

There are some test pics of the M40 but little else. As I said before, I'm sure AFV are working on German stuff as a priority. To be realistic its a real 'cash cow' for them. Don't be surprised to see the 15cm in the next few months though.
I don't think this policy is actually bad at all - I would personally sooner see AFV in business and producing 90% German than seeing them go to the wall with nothing but allied vehicles...Jim

The 15Cm. German gun has been listed as a "future release" by AFV Club for over a year. The M40 for even longer.
Listing of these items are in the New Model News for AFV on the PMMS site.
The FlaK 18 was listed originally for release in Jan. of 2005. It is now listed as "early" 2005. Of course that could be June!
