I'm currently biulding an early Stug IV of 17th SS Pz Gren Gotz Von Berlichingen during the Normandy battles. This is the only div. I have positive reference of having this vehicle. In all my references of battles where Stugs are mentioned, they are Stug III. Is this because of the resemblance of the two vehicles, and the fact that thousands more Stug III's were produced than Stug IV's, that any Stug IV's were mis-identified as Stug III's? I also have a late model Stug IV and would like to use in a diorama, but have no reference for this vehicle in any late 1944 - early 1945 actions.

Maybe as "thank you" (in a small way) for the great help and references you provided me with, I can give back some. Based on some personal readings and the outstanding OOB reference info from "DutchBird" on the Ardennes Campaign, there is information to support that for the "Battle of the Bulge" in 5th Panzer Army, the SS Fuehrer Begleit Brigade had Stug IVs in the Stug Abt 200 and the 6th SS Panzer Army's 3rd Fallschirmjaeger Division used Stug IVs in it's FJ Pz JaegAbt 3. So here might be a "use" for that later version Stug IV though I'll defer to the more informed that have better references available. Hope this helps some.
